As a Chemical Technician at Tarong Power Station I was responsible for: • managing the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) across the Tarong Power Station and Meandu Mine sites• managing the site laboratory and liaising with external laboratories• coordination of process chemistry and environmental sampling events • proactively ensuring quality chemical conditions within site processes• analysing and reporting environmental and plant data, searching trends with the intention of preventing and forecasting potential plant excursions and environmental non-compliance• performing routine analysis – environmental water quality parameters, ion chromatography, gas chromatograph etc.• routine inspections of referrable site dams• maintaining a well-developed knowledge of site environmental authority and statutory obligations

An Exploration Field Technician provides logistical and operational support to exploration activities in remote locations across Australia, including camp mobilisation, coordination of transport and earthworks, sourcing suppliers of goods and services and contractor management. This is a varied and interesting role which takes me to some beautiful places and allows me to meet some great people while searching for Tier 1 deposits.

Tarong Power Station

Research and Development Carbon Sequestration Project - Tasks involved implementation, development and maintenance of algal synthesis in a research and development commercial carbon sequestration and biomass production program at Tarong Power Station. Laboratory tasks including Nutrient analysis (Nitrate, nitrite, phosphate), in-situ water quality measurements, identification of micro/macro algae and zooplankton, vacuum filtration dry weights, calibration of equipment.

Bowen Basin, Queensland

Environmental monitoring at active and exploration mine sites throughout the Bowen Basin including groundwater, surface water, dust, soil, macro invertebrate and stygofauna sampling, highlighting results outside of trigger limits. Monitoring and maintenance of weather stations, automatic samplers and piezometers. Interpretation and understanding of laboratory results, Environmental Authorities and legislation. Calibration of field instruments and experience in use of GPS, maps and aerial photography. Liaising with lease holders and environmental staff.
