RNW Media, formerly known as Radio Netherlands Worldwide, is an innovative international digital media organisation. Under my leadership, a new future-proof vision, mission and strategy were developed and the governance was updated to international standards. During my tenure, the organisation transitioned from a radio broadcaster for Dutch people abroad into a digital media organisation with impact worldwide. With the team I was able to professionalise the associated Training Institute RNTC into a provider of high quality digital media learning solutions for media makers from countries where free speech is under pressure. I built and led a young and innovative team with digital media experts from all over the world, matching the target audience. Since my start in 2016, funding has been secured for 9 years (01/2017-12/2025) with income from a grown network of ministries of Foreign Affairs in the Netherlands, US and Canada, from the European Commission, and from a number of (international) foundations. We’ve entered into international collaborations with organizations such as Care, MSI, Oxfam, Rutgers. In addition, during my tenure, the organisation has secured quality and innovation in structured business processes and procedures with an ISO certificate as a result. Last but not least, I have been able to put RNW Media’s innovative digital media approach in international development on the map as an important tool to multiply impact.Impact: in 2022 alone, nearly 400 million youth and young adults were reached which led to over 28 million interactions with this target group. Between 2004 and 2015 I was CEO of Amref Flying Doctors in the Netherlands, and in that role part of the global Senior Management Team of Amref Health Africa. I've been able to bring change, introduce entrepreneurial leadership, build a professional, effective team, introduce strategic and financial planning processes, grow and maintain our network and position Amref Flying Doctors in the Netherlands and grow its brand awareness and perception. In 11 years we've been able to grow our income in the Netherlands from approsimately €2 mln to €16 mln in 2015 and our constituency from 10.000 to over 73.000 private, corporate and institutional donors in 2015. And as interim global director fundraising & communications I've been able to form a global team and write a shared global strategy which has been adopted by the International Board in 2014.
