At Mann ENT, I had a variety of responsibilities. I triaged patients by obtaining vitals, current symptoms, and relevant medical history. I also scribed for the physicians during patient appointments and ordered any testing including various radiology scans, audiograms, and surgeries. Under physician supervision, I prescribed and refilled medication for the patients as well. I was trained to assist in a variety of surgeries and procedures including but not limited to: balloon sinuplasty, videostroboscopy, cerumen removal, laser assisted tonsil ablation, myringotomy and tube insertion, excision biopsy, dexamethasone injections, etc. I was also trained in immunotherapy and administered allergy shots. I was exposed to new and advanced medical terminology each day while constantly learning about medical conditions, medications and dosages, and innovative procedures.

Originating as a position working in the kennel, I worked as a veterinary assistant at Hayes Barton. My duties included assisting with dog and cat restraint for vaccinations and blood work, running appointments with the veterinarians, and helping examine the clients. My main role involved supporting the doctors and technicians in their daily tasks by feeding, cleaning and maintaining equipment, preparing and sanitizing surgery examination rooms, restraining and handling patients, and clerical and administrative work.

At Samaritan Ambulance, we provided basic life support (BLS) transport for a variety of situations. My main duty involved providing care and transport to the sick and injured for a multitude of scenarios including non-emergent ER trips, doctors appointments, hospital discharges, and dialysis appointments. Another part of my job involved preparing and submitting patient care reports following all calls. I was trained to operate equipment such as EKGs, external defibrillators and bag-valve mask resuscitators in advanced life-support environments. I was also responsible for maintaining vehicles and medical and communication equipment, and replenishing first-aid equipment and supplies.

At Camp Taconic, I was a camp counselor for fifteen 7 and 8 year old girls at a traditional coed overnight camp. I designed and planned multiple camp activities to be conducted for the children. I was also the Activity Specialist at the Challenge Course Adventure Program with an intensive rock climbing wall, 12 element high ropes course and 10 element low ropes course. I became CPR, First Aid, and ASCA certified to deal with life threatening emergencies out on the course and become proficient in proper climbing techniques. In addition to running the challenge course, I was the coach of the camp’s Rock Climbing team that traveled around Massachusetts for tournaments. In this job, I learned valuable communication and team-building skills by working together with 200+ staff members to supervise these children for two months.

I worked under my PI, Dr. Micheal Dent. The overall goal of the research in our laboratory was to investigate acoustic communication in animals. I specifically measured hearing and vocalizations in birds. I performed psychoacoustic studies of hearing in parakeets using operant conditioning techniques, and also recorded the sonic and ultrasonic vocalizations from our subjects in various contexts. I worked under my PI, Dr. Richard Salvi, working with rodents in the field of tinnitus. The goal of our research was to document the location and time course of neurodegeneration in the auditory brain using classical and novel markers of nerve fiber degeneration. My main responsibilities included:•Transportation of animals•Use of MatLab and Graph Prism to record and analyze data taken during experiments•Run experiments for multiple different paradigms•Participate in professional journal clubs discussing and analyzing other professional papers similar to the experiments we ran in the lab

I was a summer intern for Dr. Liu and had many responsibilities. I took patients' blood pressure and oxygen levels at the start of their appointment. I also sat in on their appointments with Dr. Liu and learned how to assess the patient, diagnose their illness, and treat them. I frequently conversed with insurance companies to help settle disagreements between patients and the insurance company regarding health care. I also became well versed at using and understanding a wide range of medical terminology from inputting patients' medical documents and visit summary notes into the computer.
