About Jacquelyn Chavez

I suppose it all started when I boiled ditchwater with sunlight as a kid. A couple of poster-boards and a shiny blue ribbon later, I knew I wanted to be an engineer. I’ve always been a curious person and I have come to realize that I thrive on challenges. I love the thrill of discovery and when I build something or find a potential improvement, I get excited and I want to share that feeling with other people. My drive to apply scientific concepts to the real world has led me to interesting projects in diverse fields, like subsea O&G structures, amphibious drones, robotics and automation, and even water treatment. My passion to learn, listen, and be a part of a team pushes me be the best I can be. Key Skills: Highlights: Industrial Vehicle Design, Robotics, Automation, FEA, Shop Integration, DrawingsCAD: Solidworks, Solidworks Simulation, ANSYS, AutoCAD, Inventor, Aero-analysis Programming: MATLAB, Mathcad, LabVIEW, Arduino (C++/C)Code Applications: ASME Y-14.5, API RP 2H/2A/2MOP, DNV RP C208, DNVGL OS C102/C201Other: 3-D Printing and Design, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office, Control Hydraulics, SAP Testing/Refurb,

Work closely with management team to develop and coordinate all mechanical design efforts for custom industrial automated guided vehicle projects.• Mechanical design, analysis, and drafting of customized automated industrial vehicles • Create Solidworks macros to reduce 20% of workload during drafting/quoting processes • Coordinate with multiple departments to quote, order, receive, and assemble vehicles• Provide support to shop during assembly and testing of vehicle • Create assembly instructions with required specifications to ensure vehicle was structurally sound • Define detailed shipping instructions• Communicate with vendors on day-to-day basis to define company desires, needs, and schedule requirements • Communicate with customer to verify design parameters, include customer on design choices, and verify project requirements were addressed and documented• Use Solidworks to design mechanical systems and use ASME Y14.5 for drawings to improve upon existing drawings/designs
  • Technipfmc
    Mechanical Engineer
    Technipfmc Jun 2019 - Jun 2020
    Newcastle Upon Tyne, Gb
Redesigned and tested subsea CAD assemblies using ANSYS FEA. Calculated estimated stress, strain and deflection to verify structural safety during fabrication and deployment. Identified design flaws and presented design risk analyses to clients on multimillion-dollar contracts to address concerns before fabrication. Validated engineering designs and calculations with industry code using Mathcad. Compiled results into a report summarizing expected loads and structural response. Investigated changeout history of recurring equipment replacements and identified root cause of failure. Proposed changeout philosophy to reduce company overhead expense. Examined and repaired field equipment by leading shop technicians and issuing engineering change notices (ECN), service orders (SO), and quality notifications (QN). Fabricated test module to interface with customer equipment. Improved upon existing fastener designs to reduce safety incidents during transport. Tracked, replaced, and calibrated sensors for subsea control systems. Tested product sensor systems (e.g. hydraulics, sediment concentration, communications, temperature, acceleration, and fluid density) interfacing with ROV or subsea control system. • Analyzed load bearing subsea structures using FEA• Specified sensor requirements and test criteria for mobilized equipment• Rapid fabricated and tested prototype support hardware
  • New Mexico Institute Of Mining And Technology
    Amphibious Drone Team Lead
New Mexico Institute Of Mining And Technology Jan 2019 - May 2019
    Socorro, Nm, Us
Led an undergraduate team of mechanical engineers to design, document, and model an amphibious VTOL drone capable of remote delivery and retrieval of a marine payload. Calculated size, surface area, and drone body shape using MATLAB and XFLR5 to minimize weight and maximize power. Shaped and sized wings by researching expected environmental conditions and estimating internal control system weight/size. Selected body foil with aerodynamic analyses in XFLR5. • Designed lifting body and cargo systems• Designed control surfaces and systems• Developed proof of concept and led team to fabricate mock model of drone
  • New Mexico Institute Of Mining And Technology

  • Urban Water Innovation Network
    Undergraduate Research Assistant
Urban Water Innovation Network May 2018 - Aug 2018
Collected and analyzed authentic street runoff to identify concentrations of biological and chemical pollutants in residential street storm runoff. Designed filtration matrix with reusable materials to attenuate, passively treat, and release storm water. Achieved successful removal of >99% biohazards and reduced chemical pollutants >60%.Filtration matrix designed to remove biological contaminants (e.g E. Coli, enterococci such as E. faecium and E. Faecalis, total coliforms) and chemical waste by attracting charged ions in chemical compounds and bacterial cells using MnO coated sand and granular activated carbon. Created strain of permeable pavement using gravel and cement to attenuate street flooding by a volumetric flow rate of 5 gallons/minute per 206 in3 of permeable pavement strain. Results verified through physical and chemical test indications including: turbidity, chemical oxygen demand, MPN (most probable number) of bacterial cells, and suspended and volatile solids. Results taken before and after treatment using engineered filtration matrix. Trained to dispose of BSL 2 organisms, chemical waste, bacteria cultures. Experience using fume hood, furnace, autoclaving machines, turbidimeter, hot plate, and vacuum pumps.
