Deputy Director
Research Consultant
Research Consultant
I am working on a team under Quy-Toan Do and Caglar Ozden on the flagship report Mobility in the Mediterranean: Migration, Forced Displacement, and Human Capital. I work with four economists at the World Bank and three external academic researchers, Jackline Wahba, Philippe Fargues, and Sandra Rozo. The report will be used to inform the European Commission and European and Middle Eastern governments on policy regarding both economic and forced migration and presented at the annual meetings next year. The report also considers migration in the contemporary era of COVID-19, including the vulnerabilities of migrant workers, the impact on migrants' labor market outcomes, and the impact on industries, with evidence-based policy recommendations. I serve as an expert on the migration literature, conduct literature review, assist with new research, collect and analyze data, and manage the cohesion of the team and consistency of messaging.
Research Consultant
I worked on a team under Mattia Makovec, to conduct research for the project entitled International Migration in Europe and Central Asia (ECA). I performed various data analyses as needed regarding wages, brain drain, etc. per the context of immigration in Europe and produced country reports.
Research Consultant
I worked in the Development Economics Prospects Group (DECPG) under Aart Kraay, to compileand clean data from 30 different sources into one single dataset for the creation of compositeindicators for the Worldwide Governance Indicators annual report. I was asked back three years annually to conduct this work.
Phd Candidate / Teaching Assistant
My research focuses on forced migration policy in Europe, specifically the labor market, human capital investment, crime, welfare, and price impacts of migration, as well as policies, such as variations in type of legal status, that may help facilitate migrants’ and refugees’ integration into host countries. I furthermore look at how immigration may offset the problems of population aging through secondary channels such as labor market mobility and prices.I am a Teaching Assistant for the Economics of International Trade, teaching both the theory and real world empirics and policy tools of international trade economics.
Research Assistant
I worked within the Georgetown University Initiative on Innovation, Development, and Evaluation (gui2de) office, which conducts empirical field-based research to assess the impact and effectiveness of interventions and policies aimed at empowering individuals in developing countries to improve their lives. I worked under Professor and Vice Provost of Research William Jack, helping to design and implement Digital Financial Inclusion experimental economic research designs, power calculations, cleaning and analyzing randomized control trial data, and conducting high frequency and analyses on project, within Kenya and Uganda, under the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation funding. I also worked directly with training field enumerators and assisting with data collection. We conducted our work in primarily Stata, but also R and Python. I spent the June and July 2018 based in Kenya.
International Communications Coordinator
After just seven months of working in an entry level role as the International Communications Assistant, I was promoted to the position of International Communications Coordinator, the most-esteemed position in the department globally, after I proved my capabilities during a period of transition. I then managed four people and coordinated our communications strategy and content production across 10 regional offices, relayed our key advocacy messages to governments, NGOs, IGOs, and the media, and coordinated the launch of a USD 35 million advocacy and fundraising campaign to spread education initiatives worldwide for refugees. I also traveled to 30 developing and developed countries to collect content and produce articles.
Math Test Engineer / Mathematician
My primary responsibility was in error-proofing theoretical algorithms for casino gaming software and coding a mathematical simulation of the game play in C++ to ensure the simulated payout percentage converged using Markov Chain Monte Carlo simulations to match the theoretical payout percentage and variance of each game’s mathematical model. I then generated emulation scripts which forced breakpoints in the software to ensure that the algorithms are appropriately implemented in the game software through game simulations in Linux. This included moving between theoretical and applied mathematics and working with immense precision.
Impact Metrics Benchmarking Research Intern
I analyzed existing primary data for an agribusiness microfinance project in Nicaragua and created several options for a three year planting plan with models and projections which would generate different optimized profits with different levels of risk.
Studio Coordinator
I project managed an 8-day, city-wide festival with responsibilities including budgeting with restricted grants, profit maximization, programming, venue booking, arranging travel and accommodations, marketing, and PR. I additionally wrote and tracked all contracts, financial reconciliations, invoices, and receipts for renters, and maintained the website, communications, public relations, and social media. Later I served as an Associate Board Member for two years.
Usa Liason
This was a registered Community-Based Organization which sponsors the education of war-affected students in rural northern Uganda, which I founded at Loyola University Chicago. I developed a micro-financed piggery to generate sustainable income for the education projects, registered the organization with the Gulu NGO Forum and attended applicable development conferences, established a local Board of Directors, and collected primary economic data from the benefiting families to design future models.
Field Manager
I oversaw fundraising teams for Save the Children and Planned Parenthood, reconciling the team’s daily finances. I led core staff training sessions and trained and filtered new hires. I also met with all field managers and directors weekly to develop more effective fundraising team strategies.
Intern
I assisted and provided translation for refugees to complete paperwork for visas, residency, and asylum and provided refugees with English and Italian lessons and emotional counseling.
