CurrentSA Navy – Gunnery Officer / Bridge Watchkeeper• Participated in Counter Insurgency Operations in Northern Mozambique under SADC which resulted in the successful suppression of the ASJW insurgency. • In charge of the Electronic Warfare and Gunnery Departments. Responsible for the training, administration, management, well-being, and daily supervision of 7+ Supervisors and +-25 staff.• Gunnery and Ammunition Accounting Officer controlling, expending, safeguarding, and stowing over 21 000 units of various ammunition types, explosives, and pyrotechnics and ensuring combat readiness.• Plan and conduct firing exercises for the ship and crew.• Acted as range safety officer (RSO) and officer in charge of sea and shore-based firings. Coordinator of all aspects and actors during live firings - especially safety.• Directly responsible for the utilisation and maintenance of all medium calibre weapons and small arms during operations and training, numbering approximately 30 weapons of various types and calibres. • Conducted planning and cross-function coordination with multiple shipboard stakeholders and shore-side agencies to guarantee the synchronization of various entities to ensure smooth execution of weapon operation, logistic arrangements, security, and safety.• Endorsed to conduct watches at sea onboard 2 types of Naval vessels.• Conducted port assessments focusing on safety, security, channel depth, navigational aids, and hazards prior to the ship entering and departing ports to ensure safe transit.• Served as a deck watch officer (bridge watchkeeper) on numerous exercises (including several multinational – exercises).
