About Jacques Le Roux

I am passionate about the defense and security industry. I still currently serve as a Naval Combat (Warfare) Officer and qualified Bridge Watchkeeper. This requires one to excel at working in a fast-paced, resource-constrained environment where decision-making skills are paramount to the smooth execution of complex plans. The highlight of my career was participating in Counter Insurgency Operations in Northern Mozambique which resulted in the successful suppression of the ASJW insurgency. I am currently in charge of the Electronic Warfare and Gunnery Departments and thus responsible for the supervision of 7+ supervisors and +-25 staff. My focus is on efficient operations, management, and risk mitigation, whilst adhering to complex Navy and ship regulations. I conduct planning and cross-function coordination with multiple shipboard stakeholders and shore-side agencies to ensure the synchronization of various entities for the smooth execution of objectives. I have 10+ years active service, 3 years of which I spent studying at SA Military Academy (Stellenbosch University). The last 6+ years spent primarily onboard the frigate, SAS SPIOENKOP, with a number of detachments to other platforms and vessels for various exercises, roles and training purposes. I am a qualified Officer of the Day/Deck onboard SAN Frigates being familiar with all ship systems relating to combat, safety, security, and damage control.

Listed skills include Leadership, Military, Project Planning, Defense, and 12 others.

Combat Officers are responsible for executing the Navy’s main function – Maritime Warfare. These officers also serve in shore posts, including training units and the Maritime Reaction Squadron. All officer candidates undergo a selection process to determine whether they have leadership potential.
