Responsible for the business development of the mining studies group and sustainable engineering services for Canada. Strategic planning, hiring and resources development. Coordinating engineering services through our various Canadian offices, namely Vancouver, Toronto, Sudbury and Saskatoon.Providing engineering services to the mining industry for underground mining and open pit mining.

Was the engineering authority and responsible for all engineering tasks for the mining conractor in all its North American projects. Create an engineering department to support contracting operations across North America as well as providing studies services to our external clients. Initially started the department with myself and one chief engineer. After 3 years our engineering department was comprised of 12 employees including 2 estimators, one superintendant, one senior project manager and 8 engineers (mechanical, structural and mining). We were providing full EPC support to our operations as a mining contractor as well as averaging $2 Millions of external consulting services per year to our company external clients. During these years he conducted numerous studies on Uranium and Potash mining projects. He directed the engineering team that developed the shaft sinking project for a major potash mine expansion. He was the lead design engineer for the sinking, grouting program design and shaft liner design from conceptual level through EPC level. Jacques developed an in depth trechnical knowledge for shaft sinking, shaft liner design and ground freezing. Working in the mining contractor industry he acquired a solid practical experience of construction project.

Started this private consulting company to provide expertise in geotechnical and mining engineering. The company started as a registered company and was incorporated in 2007. This consulting activities were done in parallel to my academic carreer where there were no exclusivity clauses. It ceased activities once I joined the private industry full time where exclusivity clauses would have prevented maintaining independent work activities. At the time of incorporation the company had three associates. It provided consulting services for mining studies but mainly for rock mechanics, civil and grouting services. Over the years we provided our services to various consulting and mining companies such as: Noranda, Cambior, Placer Dome, Barrick, Mine McWaters, Minerai Lac, Dessault Soprin, ABC, CSST, Areva, Thyssen Mining among others. We also provided geotechnical engineering services to various consulting firms and mining companies for slope stability, rock fall mitigation, tailings dams assessment and rock mechanics.

Tenures associate professor in the mining engineering department. Teaching courses on Open pit mining, rock blasting, rock mechanics and engineering ethics. Over the years conducted extensive research on mine backfill, paste fill specifically and rock drilling. Offered services to external clients on rock engineering and underground mine design. He conducted advance research on mine tailings stabilization and mine fill properties. He studied novel application of electromagnetic energy to rock breakage that produced two patents. He provided various seminars courses to the mining industry such as: Mine backfill technology, Use of concrete in underground mining, rock mechanics for mining engineers, In situ testing with pressuremeters for civil engineers. During this term he got involved with various research groups around the world, participated in numerous international conferences both as presenter as well as technical chairman positions.

Professor and researcher in the applied sciences department. Was teaching core courses (vector mechanics, solid mechanics and Material science) for the mechanical engineering program. Developped and contributed research and consulting services activities through the University Research Unit (URSTM) providing technical and scientific support to the mining industry. Developped and trained the research unit staff for providing rock mechanics and soil testing to the industry. Jacques hired, trained all the technical staff as well as selecting and acquiring laboratory equipment to establish a fully finctional geotechnical lab providing services to the mining industry. A laboratory facility that is still in operation today providing services worldwide. Through his R&D activities he developed and supervised drilling procedures for in situ pastefill coring/sampling and was the first to succesfully test pastefill in situ in an operating mine using a self boring pressuremeter. His field testing procedure providing full stress/strain curves as well as pore pressure response in cemented paste fill within the underground mine stopes. He developed a unique and extensive expertise in mine fill QA/QC programs and procedures. During his tenure he was teaching the following courses in the mechanical engineering curriculum: Vector mechanics (Static & Dynamic 6 credits) Solid mechanics (3 credits), Material Science (2 credits), Professional Practice. From 1989 to 1997 was an administrator of the research unit (URSTM) as well as a member of its advisory board regrouping representatives form industry and academia. This unit initially started with one professional and one technician. In 1997 it regrouped 5 associated researchers, 3 professionals, 4 technicians providing laboratory services in rock mechanics, soil mechanics, mine backfill and PAG testing. It was also suporting graduate reasearch programs with postgraduates coming from abroad.

On a part time basis provided specialized technical assistance to external clients on various rock mechanics services such as site investigation, numerical modeling (boundary elements and FEM) and field instrumentation. Conducted extensive field programs to measure in situ stress in underground mines and in hydroelectric dam Manic 5. Over my years of services I executed over 300 stress measurements in the field. I use the following technology: USBM borehole deformation gage, CSIRO cell, Leeman cell and doorstopper. For the Manic 5 field investigation we implemented modified doorstopper technique as well as modified Leeman cell technique to obtain continuous strain measurements over time and during overcoring process.

Served in the Canadian Armed Forces and obtained his officer commission in 1980. Enlisted in the regular forces in August 1977 and followed the ROTP program, basic training in Chilliwack on 1978. Then attended RMC Kingston in September 1978. Transfered to reserves forces in 1980 and honorably discharged to engage in full time graduate studies in civil University in1983.
