I was part of a software development team that specializes in designing software for the retail industry. I developed and maintained the in-store software for our point of sale (POS).

I was employed as a Senior Developer at Transaction Capital Recoveries. They specialize in debt recovery and I was part of the development team that manage the Delphi solutions being used one of them being the main collection application used by call center agents.I have developed a windows service that integrates into Short Message Service Centers (SMSC) using SMPP (Short Message Peer-to-Peer) protocol. The solution now offers the business direct integration into various providers to send and manage the 1 million SMS's being sent each day.Duties include - Development of new solutions e.g. SMS service required by business - Management of Source Control Software

For 11 years I was part of a Software development team at UCS Technology services that specializes in Point of Sale software for the retail industry. The industries that we focused on are Fashion, Cellular and FMCG (Fast moving consumer goods).I was pivotal in the development of a solution specifically for the Retail Industry. The POS solution is currently running in more than 20 well known retailers in South Africa. The solution currently has more than 15 integration point ranging from ERP systems, EFT Integration, Loyalty Program Integrations and many more. X-Pressnet approached me to re-join and manage the IT department. The position would still include the continual development of the software used in the business.X-Pressnet was running multiple solutions and servers in their business to run their 12 branch operation. Most of the systems were outdated and needed an overhaul. I managed the process to:- Move to a Windows 2000 Server / Windows XP environment- Move to Exchange Server for E-mail- Move to a new document imaging solution (Virtual Postman) - This included integration development from our SQL server to Virtual Postaman- Introduction of Windows ISA FirewallOne of the biggest cost cutting exercises was to move our WAN directly from a third party to Telkom. There was a 25 % saving in costs associated with the telephone lines and infrastructure associated with the WAN. My duties included:- Management of IT infrastructure for their 12 branch operation- People management of developers and technical staff- Management reporting- Month-End Procedures- Banking Exports

I was offered a position at Unico International that formed part of the bigger Borland South Africa group of companies. I joined as a software developer to work on the base source code for the freight and distribution industry. Unico also focused on custom software development. One of the software solutions that I build was to manage the processes and sales in a catering supply company. The software was later adapted to manage the orders in a cold meat supply business.My responsibilities included: - Software development and maintenance - Being part of the Borland South Africa group we assisted with the training programs that were offered

I joined a small IT team at X-Pressnet as a software developer to develop and maintain a set of software applications for the freight and distribution industry. The initial source code was purchased from Unico International. X-Pressnet was looking for internal developers to continue the development life cycle of the various systems. At that stage they were using a contractor from Unico to maintain the system.One of the biggest changes require was moving the debtors application from a balance brought forward system to a open item system. I was also required to develop an Invoice Export application as part of Nedbank's Debtor Management system.My responsibilities included:- Joint management of IT for X-Pressnet - Software Development- Network Management (12 Branches)- SQL Server Management- Financial Month-end Procedures

I relocated to Johannesburg and rejoined Izinga Access to form part of a bigger IT team to develop applications and support their call center environment. The main focus of this call center was to provide support on the value added services of certain players in the insurance industry.During this time, I designed, developed and implemented a customer feedback (compliment / complaints) resolution system for the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa. This was a new service offered by the call center. Another service offered by the call center was to conduct telephonic interviews based on a set of questions. I designed, developed and implemented a system that could managed the whole process.One of the main reasons relocating to Johannesburg was to assist the Johannesburg office to prepare for a similar tender as that of the Cape Town office. This would be to setup a brand new call center in Johannesburg to provide information on public transport. I was instrumental in compiling the IT portion of the document. After submission, the tender was withdrawn and the department of transport in Gauteng decided not to continue with the project.My main responsibilities was to design, develop, support and maintain the applications being used in the call center.

I was contracted to a small call center within Telkom to assist in enhancing a Delphi system being used by their call center agents.In the four months that I was there I developed a application that interacted with a telnet based system to send out SMS's to customers.

I was promoted to IT Manager in June 1999 after the current IT Manager left the company. This expanded my scope of involvement within the call center.The IT system expanded from being a basic system where information is provided on the various modes of transport to include a customer complaints / feedback mechanism for Golden Arrow and Metrotrail. During this period I was responsible for:- Managing development life cycle of the various applications used in call center- Management of MS SQL database- Management of Windows NT 4.0 Server / Workstation environment- Monitoring of IVR Call Center Servers and Software- Software Training and Support- IT Infrastructure presentation to stake holders of call center - This included various departments in the City of Cape Town

While studying Information Technology at Cape Technicon (now known as Cape University of Technology), I was afforded an opportunity to form part of a newly formed call center to develop a public transport information system. The call center provides information on trains (Metrorail), busses (Golden Arrow) and mini-bus taxis.One of my initial tasks was to log the call journey so that we could accurately report on the call volumes per segment (trains, buses and taxi), call types (information, complaints) and journey requests (point A to point B).My responsibilities included:- System development and enhancements- Production database backups- Software Installations and configuration
