Internal AuditorAbsa – Nsc, Fica, Avav Jun 2009 - Apr 2011Johannesburg Area, South AfricaAs Internal Auditor I designed and implemented a new checklist that summarised business rules and gave the business a tool to eliminate errors that could be found at the end of the value chain. I also investigated processes that were being utilised in the processing centers and made recommendations on where enhancements could be made.I assisted by designing a file that could determine the training needs of various individuals and was involved in the setup of the QA function at FICA and AVAV centers.ACHIEVEMENTS✔ Assisted ABSA in becoming FICA compliant on their account documents from their clients. After analysing the processes I determined that the problem with the non-compliant documents started at their Tier 1 level. ABSA wanted to implement a Tier 4 to address these problems, but I advised against it as it would not rectify the problem. I redesigned the forms that were used at Tier 1 level for the opening of new accounts to include all the required procedures and documents as per the FICA requirements. These forms were implemented throughout ABSA in South Africa. ✔ I developed a complicated Excel spread sheet to monitor the process and to determine which areas needed to be focussed on for training purposes. Daily data was downloaded from ABSA systems and imported into Excel. I then manipulated the data to give management graphs and tables that showed what type of errors were being made and which individuals needed training. The error rate reduced from over 90% to fewer than 2% for non-compliant documents. ABSA passed their FICA audit as a result of this.

I served on various tender specification committees and wrote the specifications for a new online procurement system.ACHIEVEMENTS✔ I was relocated to the Procurement Department to head up a team to ensure that the JRA’s database of suppliers was compliant to the requirements of the VAT act and to streamline the processes in the Procurement Department. I developed an online registration process that eliminated human error in the processing of applications as well as enabling using the data successfully for future procurement of services.
