Jacqui is the principal clinical psychologist and director of boutique allied health consultancy, Complex Psychology, and she has keen interest in working with people who have complex needs. Over her years of experience she has developed skills in working with people who might have been placed in the "too hard basket" by a system that is often ill-equipped to support them, and she has a focus on collaborating to encourage the system to fit the client, rather than squeezing the client into a pre-set system.No one would ever say it's easy working with people who have highly complex needs and who might present as a risk to themselves and others, but it doesn't have to be high crisis all of the time. Jacqui is keen on working with teams to develop a safe platform for optimal client support. This can be achieved via careful planning, assessment of care team dynamics, quality support and debriefing and a client centred approach. In addition to her work with teams, Jacqui is regularly engaged as an expert witness in court hearings for people in the forensic disability system. I also maintain a significant clinical, client caseload that includes expert witness reports and testimony in the disability justice sector, behaviour support (advanced/specialist), psychological assessment and treatment, provision of training and supervision and complex care team coordination.I have a particular interested in two key areas: - The dynamics of teams working with clients who have highly complex needs, and how to support the processing of complex team dynamics to support better client outcomes.- Thorough and practical risk assessments and expert witness reports. My approach is one that involves broad consultation with care teams and clients in a way that allows for a better analysis of risk based on more than a single client interview and review of a few reports. Risk outcomes for clients with complex needs are so heavily based on how the team around them works together, hence it is vital to consult broadly with clients AND their teams.I am focused on the delicate, and often highly complex, intersection between human rights and community safety. I regularly reflect that Complex Psychology clients have exactly the same rights as the broader community, they just sometimes need a little help to access those rights in a way that is safe for everyone.
