I started this role as a Trainee, in Leeds as I studied part time at Sheffield Hallam University to obtain a BSc Biomedical Sciences. On completion of the degree and in-house education I advanced to Qualified Healthcare Scientist and eventually to Healthcare Scientist Specialist in 2007. In 2009 due to organisational change I was redeployed to the Sheffield centre. As a Healthcare Scientist Specialist it was my responsibility for result authorisation & sample referral to the reference laboratory as required. I was also the Shift Supervisor in the Bacterial Testing section of department (on rotation). I also advanced my education during this period, and took the A1 Assessor certificate. As an A1 Assessor I performed assessments of NHSBT staff members undertaking NVQ level 2 in Clinical Laboratory Support.
