I am currently the Department Supervisor of the Inside Lawn and Garden and Outdoor Power Equipment departments at Lowe’s of East Patchogue. I am responsible for managing and delegating to a team of between 4 and 17+ associates depending on the season. I maintain a clean and organized department with a focus on assuring my shelves are fully stocked and visually appealing for my customers at all times. I monitor my inventory levels and order appropriately so as to maintain this expectation. In addition to maintenance on a daily basis I am responsible for monitoring my department’s sales performance, being aware of my current highest and lowest selling items and making merchandising decisions based on those figures. I am expected to maintain and continue to build on my knowledge of the products I sell, which is especially challenging in a seasonal department that rotates through various items from Christmas decorations, heaters, fire pits, and AC units, to garden chemicals and tools. As a part of the personnel management for my department I must also be aware of my associates schedules and coverage throughout the day and week, with emphasis on high customer volume hours. On top of managing my individual department, as part of the management team, I must allocate a certain amount of my time and attention to the entire store in general. I support the on shift ASMs in their role by monitoring customer traffic around the store and especially by the registers. I routinely take care of any issues that arise with customers that are beyond the scope of a regular associate or head cashier. I also am aware at all times of any safety issues that arise, as well as any personal safety issues with regards to monitoring loss through theft during the day. The broad nature of my role has enabled me to expand my knowledge base with regards to being register trained, basic money handling and accounting duties, people management, and computer literacy especially regarding technology used in a retail setting.
