I created Stimulating Stone as a place to share my stories and creative collections from my journey in Scotland as a leadership trainer, writer and inspirer of other women. I write poetry and observationalist blog posts and post creative content on Instagram & Facebook.I'm an aspiring published author and am working on a self-development book that will bring all my learnings together in one place.I host a circle of women on Facebook and pre-COVID I hosted monthly get togethers bringing in guest speakers and facilitated discussion on themed topics in a safe and supportive manner.I regularly assist women with personal or professional challenges using my skills and expertise in a coaching role to facilitate change in their lives.

My role with Scottish Gymnastics is to support clubs to be the best they can be. My areas of expertise where I take a lead are governance and leadership.Having developed a bespoke Effective Club Framework in 2016 I now act as champion, updating, educating, and advocating internally for the organisation and externally to member clubs.With regards to club business, I lead on governance offering education, development and 1-2-1 support to our member clubs both directly and through managing relationships with our external legal and HR advisors.I designed a full leadership pathway and behavioural competency framework for Scottish Gymnastics in 2018 and now have responsibility to educate, develop and support clubs across the pathway. I have personally designed and continue to deliver programmes such as a 12-month Leadership Academy, a Leadership Award aimed at anyone 12+ and accredited by Sports Leaders, CPD, online learning, networking opportunities and 1-2-1 support.

I helped get the charity established through advising on all governance related issues including staffing, policy and constitutional matters.I took a lead on the Board around equalities, making sure the charity was inclusive and catered for a wide audience.I worked with the Convenor providing general board education and support on a number of topics.At times I also stepped into an operational role supporting events or sessions as an extra volunteer working directly with the young people attending the centre.

I helped ensure that the company’s obligations to outside stakeholders were understood and met.As part of my role, I had a specific responsibility within the Board to look at governance related matters and equality.

FAB’s aim was to use unique sports insights, experiences and networks to provide tailored professional and personal development opportunities that supported women in sport to progress on their leadership pathway.As Regional Coordinator I looked after the Scottish database, organised and hosted events, managed social media, made links outside the sector & liaised with the National Leads around priorities.In 2015 was invited to be a guest speaker at the Women’s Sport Leadership Academy at the University of Chichester.Through work with FAB I acted as secretariat for a Women in Sport working group who were looking to make recommendations to the Minister for Sport. Within this a responsibility to look at getting more women into leadership.

Scotland

During my time with sportscotland I managed relationships with SGBs (Golf, Bowls, Fencing, Equestrian, Wrestling & Archery) and other partners (SSA) through monitoring their investment, strategic planning support and offering ‘added value’ through other services. I led and managed the design and delivery of a project to offer learning and development to SGBs (integrated into wider sportscotland training project with HR) with a budget of £85,000. This included a new leadership programme for SGBs.I was responsible for the development of a programme of governance support to SGB Boards including the delivery of workshops, providing direct support and advice and also deploying wider resources around policy and strategy to a range of SGBs.I chose to become part of a Ministerial Working group for Women in Sport with a sub-group responsibility to look at getting more women into leadership positions across the sporting sector.Proactive and reactive attendance at meetings and events to further promote sportscotland work both locally and nationally was a crucial part of my role.I had to demonstrate effective communication between internal colleagues, partners, SGBs, training providers and other external agencies including Scottish Government.

Following a number of guest speaking opportunities, and despite working for sportscotland at the time, I was invited to return to the department where I completed my Masters as a visiting lecturer. I had responsibility for course design for a six-week module around sport operations management and delivery of the lectures and tutorials to 21 students (most of whom were international).I arranged visits and guest speakers from across the sporting sector, set the assignment question, dealt with student enquiries, and then marked the submissions.The role also involved liaising with the external examiner to discuss future amendments to the course.I also took on supervision and mentoring of a dissertation student completing a piece of research around Stakeholder Perceptions of Talent Identification and Development in Scotland.

Having only been with SOEC for a short time I still influenced change. I assessed all aspects of the business to identify areas for development to achieve further organisational success.I was responsible for all areas of marketing to develop a strong brand and capitalise on the potential of new business. I fostered staff and partnership development to encourage closer collaborative working with a particular focus on customer care.I facilitated effective communication between various parties including Head Office staff, the Centres, customers, and media and held an advocacy role via printed and electronic means attendance at meetings and events to further promote the business.

My role involved close working relationships with the CEO, Partnership Manager, Board & staff members for all aspects of their national plan & operational programmes.Working in conjunction with the Membership Coordinator, I completed a full membership review. As part of this process, I consulted with member clubs to engender improved club engagement with the Governing Body. I was Equality Champion for the Board and guided Snowsport Scotland through Foundation Level of the Equality Standard.

Snowsport GB was the national governing body for Snowsport in Britain with the mission to support a consistently strong British Team, in all disciplines, able to compete at the highest level. • Operational day to day management of British Snowsport. • Supporting Britain’s leading Snowsport performance teams.• Financial management of team budgets and staff expenses. • UK base contact for the team at 2006 Winter Olympics.• Lead officer for anti-doping matters. • Facilitating effective communication between teams, press, sponsors etc. • Partnership working with key external agencies. • Project management including running the annual British Ski Championships. • Recruiting, training and managing the Administration Assistant.

Nevis Range is a year round mountain ski resort in the Highlands of Scotland near Ben Nevis and Fort William. Outward Bound Loch Eil runs centre-based courses all year round and expedition courses during the summer months for Children, Adults & Corporate clients with a focus on personal development.As well as learning new outdoor skills, I worked with groups attending the centre, which gave me the chance through leadership to form new ideas and make decisions. As sole duty worker overnight I had responsibility for the centre and up to two hundred children.
