I am a novelist, writing coach and literary consultant - founder of 'The Writing Coach' an international mentoring organisation for writers. I founded The Writing Coach in 2005 (www.thewritingcoach.co.uk) and have coached hundreds of writers, many of whom have gone on to mainstream publication. I continue to mentor writers and have a team of consultants to assist me. We work with individuals and businesses worldwide.After a BA in Drama and English from the University of Bristol, I began my career in radio production and media training. In 1992 I studied for my MA in Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia under Malcolm Bradbury and Rose Tremain. I am the author of four novels, 'The Temple of Hymen'​ (Penguin 1996), 'Bluethroat Morning'​, (Bloomsbury 2000), 'Een Stille Verdwijning'​ (De Bezige Bij 2005) and 'The Modigliani Girl'​ (Blackbird Books 2015). My novels have sold over 100,000 copies in the UK, the USA and Europe and have been widely reviewed.Prior to founding The Writing Coach, I taught creative writing in a broad variety of settings including at City University, Richmond Adult and Community College, and Feltham Young Offenders Institution. I have a PGCE in secondary education (Drama and English) from the Institute of Education, London and have taught English and Drama in London secondary schools.I am also a former actor. Roles included playing Daphne for Spare Tyre Theatre Co in 'How Am I Looking Now?' at New Diorama Theatre and Gillian in Gillian Wearing's film 'Wearing Gillian' for Cincinnati Art Museum.I am currently working on my fifth novel, 'A Picture of You'.
