About Jac Stelly
The goal of my career is to accelerate the implementation of climate solutions. I've begun doing so with a focus on technical material including a degree in Environmental Engineering and research conducted at the National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL) and Michigan State University (MSU).Tremendous work is being done in the scientific, industrial, and political sectors all over the world that will enable the achievement of a carbon-free energy economy, and I believe that this decade's most pivotal action is at the confluence of these fields. At NREL, I participated in the Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internship (SULI) as a part of the Solar Decathlon Design Challenge team. During my 6-month tenure, I co-authored a publication detailing the competition's 20-year progression, and I also supported the planning, execution, and review of the Solar Decathlon's first ever hybrid final competition event. I even had the opportunity to lead the kickoff networking event for in-person contestants coming from universities around the world. As for MSU, I contributed to the Multi-Scale Food-Energy-Water (FEW) Systems Modeling Lab as well as the Basso Lab for Sustainable Land Use. Before working for the National Renewable Energy Lab, I co-authored an investigation of hydro-electric dams and their impact on downstream hydrology with the FEW Systems Modeling Lab, and upon returning, the principal investigator offered me a project that would make me the youngest primary author in lab history. Working over the course of 10 months, I led a team of international specialists to validate the performance of the CaMa-Flood model regionalized to the confines of Taiwan. With substantiated results, the team and I presented findings pertaining to long-term changes in water availability as well as a reconstruction of two major flooding events over the past 20 years. This manuscript is currently under review by the Journal of Hydrology - Regional Studies. At the Basso Lab for Sustainable Land Use, I supported a number of projects focusing on food security and sound agricultural practices. I have gained experience in field work, technical reading and writing, and visualization of data and processes. I graduated from Michigan State University in December of 2022 with a Bachelor's of Environmental Engineering. Previous to college, I attended University of Detroit Jesuit High School where I graduated Magna Cum Laude and received the Fr. Polokowski Award for English Student of the Year.
