Professor in the Secondary and Higher Education Department in the School of Education at Salem State University. Teaches courses on educational leadership, school change, adolescent literacy, literacy coaching, and middle/high school curriculum design. Research focuses on adolescent and disciplinary literacies, literacy coaching, and teacher leadership at the school and district levels.

Lead Writer for Standard 6: Professional Learning and Leadership

Consultant to schools, districts, and states on topics related to adolescent literacy, coaching, and leadership.

Designed and taught two graduate courses: H-810H: Introduction to Literacy Coaching and H-821: Literacy Coaching. Organized guest speakers, delivered lectures, supervised student practicum projects, and supervised students as they wrote research papers on literacy coaching. Fall 2007, 2008, 2009, & 2010.

Delivered professional development to 5th – 8th grade Language Arts, content area teachers, and literacy coaches around reading and writing instruction. Taught literacy classes to groups of struggling 5th – 8th graders. Taught and coached guided reading and writing workshops. Coordinated and supervised college and graduate student interns from both Lesley University and HGSE. Taught drama classes to 5th – 8th grade students. Coordinated the Creative Writing Club, the Shakespeare Club, the Boys Read/Write Club, and annual award-winning afterschool plays.

Editor for the Harvard Educational Review, a scholarly journal published quarterly by the Harvard Education Publishing Group. Wrote and acquired a $25,000 grant from the Carnegie Corporation of New York sponsoring a special issue on adolescent literacy. Co-Chair of the Editorial Board for 2007-2008.
