As a member of their multidisciplinary team, while supervising phenomenally skilled COTAs, I was able to efficiently transition patients through the continuum of care with improved functional levels of independence. I provided multi-media education to patients & their families, completing home assessments and making therapeutic recommendations for mobility & adaptive equipment needs to insure optimal independence and safety after discharge with reduced re-admissions.

I transitioned from a PRN COTA/L to a PRN OTR/L in Feb 2008. I accepted a full-time position Oct 2013 to Feb 2015; and continued to consistently provide PRN OT services until October 2019 when PDPM was implemented. Working with this company for 13 years was my favorite! Using Rehab Optima software and almost identical rehab department set-ups, Infinity facilitated my seemless assimilation into interdisciplinary teams all across the Puget Sound! I served countless patients with a wide range of diagnoses to include post-operative care, orthopedic, neurological and psychological illness.

Two separate contracts with Western State Hospital. I was tasked with developing a skilled OT program in compliance with CMS requirements for civilly committed psychiatric patients. I was invited back to implement the same OT program for the criminally committed psychiatric patients.

This allowed me a great opportunity to master several skill sets: my multitasking and time management skill sets were perfected as I completed skilled evaluations, formulated therapeutic treatment plans as well as provided COTA mentoring/supervision; my geographical awareness, self-scheduling and collaborative scheduling skills perfected to accommodate other providers, as well as patient appointments.

I evaluated & supported special needs students, kindergarten through 12th grade, in accessing their public education while optimizing their ability to perform within their 'student' role. This gave me the opportunity to sharpen communication skills with a variety of non-medical people (ie: teacher, parents, and children from 6 years old to 21 years old). Skills that flourished as a result of this opportunity included critical thinking skills, mental flexibility, creative adaptations with out-of-the-box materials, nurturing therapeutic relationships, establishing rapport with administrators and teachers in 3 different buildings; recognizing the cultural differences within each school and modifying relationship building techniques to successfully match that of the audience to increase rapport; sharpened time-management skills to meet the needs of 50 students, accommodate drive time and timely documentation completion within the time frame required.
