About Jada Smith

I am an Environmental Compliance Specialist and Air Quality Forecaster for the Georgia Environmental Protection Division and I am a part-time graduate student at Millersville University for the MSEM program, with an expected graduation date of May 2025. I graduated from the University of Georgia with my Bachelor's in Atmospheric Sciences in 2023 with a 4.0 GPA.My interest in meteorology came about at a young age, like many other meteorologists. I remember being in kindergarten and getting into the hallways when a tornado warning was issued. The teachers were talking to us about why we got into the tornado safety position, which confused me as I did not know what a tornado was at the time. When I got home, I immediately looked up tornadoes and fell in love with the weather.In 2021, I realized that my additional love within weather is emergency management and communication. I realized this love when I reflected on how Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico, how it devastated the communities, and how I wanted to do something about that. With my passion lying in the intersection of weather and emergency management, I hope to continue to learn and grow to be able to help more people in their time of need.I have experience in weather forecasting, air quality forecasting, PM2.5, PM10, and Ozone machine maintenance, synoptic chart analysis, qualitative coding, qualitative analysis, academic research, science communication, and scientific writing.
