Broadly, I am interested understanding system-scale processes and the ways in which those processes influence and are altered by people. This driving question has taken from the old growth forests of the Oregon Coast Range, to the mangrove swamps of the Everglades; from an urban ecosystem thriving on a 200-year-old historic site to the University of Michigan's Museum of Natural History (UMMNH).I currently work for the UMMNH as Science Communication Manager, where I help university researchers at all academic levels tell the story of their science in ways that are accessible to a diverse public audience. Prior to joining UMMNH, I mentored learners of all ages as the site Naturalist for the Department of State at Tallahassee's Grove Museum. In addition to developing the museum's monthly hands-on science program, Backyard Discovery, I led efforts to deepen our understanding of the 10.5 acre site's natural history. From 2015 - 2018 I worked as an Environmental Specialist with Ecology and Environment, Inc. (E & E) where I participated in restoration planning, natural resource management, and environmental monitoring. I have continued to work in the classroom with undergraduates and gifted youth through various appointments at Florida State University, Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY), Duke University's Talent Identification Program (TIP), and the Fall Line South Field Institute. ​In 2014 completed a dual major M Sc. in Soil Science and Botany at Oregon State University. My research involved two projects focused on the common themes of micronutrient limitation and nitrogen-fixation in the Oregon Coast Range. These projects aimed to understand how micronutrients (specifically molybdneum) influence the production of new bioavailable nitrogen in Coast Range soils and in the cyanobacterial lichen Lobaria pulmonaria.A native of Indiana, I received my B Sc. in Environmental Science with a concentration in Geology from Indiana University (IU) Bloomington in 2011. I am an alumnus and former teaching assistant of IU's Judson Mead Geological Field Station. From 2011 - 2012 I worked as lab manager for a sulfur biogeochemistry lab in the Department of Geological Sciences at IU, where I worked on a variety of projects involving sedimentology, carbon and sulfur isotope geochemistry, and paired C and S isotope stratigraphy.
