My dissertation was titled: "Understanding Elected Officeholder Endorsements in Presidential Primaries. In it I use quantitative methods to analyze the endorsement behavior of members of Congress in presidential primaries from 1980-2016. I provide evidence that members of Congress make endorsements with three core motivations in mind: 1) to boost the candidacy of the person they endorse, 2) to aid their own reelection efforts by associating themselves with a popular person in the mind of voters, and 3) to help them obtain a different job than the one they currently have. Additionally, I showed that endorsers that seem to be motivated by each of the three core goals act at different points in the primary process. Methodologically, this work primarily used a multinomial conditional logit model. The dissertation also used survey experiments to look at the effect of endorsements on primary voters and included in-depth interviews with former members of Congress where they discuss the choices they made in either making or refraining from making endorsement choices.

Greater Salt Lake City Area

The position involved data analysis in R of survey results including work on surveys for municipalities in the greater Salt Lake City area, counties, private companies, and both state and federal congressional campaigns. It's has included work on universe creation for Utah House GOP campaigns. Other work entailed visual graphics creation in R using ggplot2, survey questionnaire and topline creation, survey topline automation, focus group recruitment and assistance, and coding open-ended survey responses.
