About Jade Murphy (Powers)
I am an Analytical Chemist with a passion for Cannabis! My background consists of a BS in ACS Chemistry with a minor in Environmental Science and currently pursuing a MS in Cannabis Science and Theaputics. I am skilled in cannabis testing and regulation as well as research and development. I began my cannabis career with GW Pharmaceuticals where I took part in an R&D project to upscale the decarboxylation process upon the FDA approval of Epidiolex in June 2018. The project consisted of narrowing down an ideal temperature and hold time for full decarboxylation of cannabidiol and monitoring potential degradation.In the United States, I found myself drawn to the regulatory testing environment. I have experience following the appropriate state regulatory body with accreditation through ISO 17025. I currently have experience in the cannabis industry in Pennsylvania (regulated by the DOH) and Michigan, regulated by the CRA (Michigan Cannabis Regulation Agency). I have been involved in optimizing and validating multiple testing methods such as Potency by HPLC, Terpenes by GCMS and Heavy Metals on ICP-MS. My main focus has been with Chemical Residue analysis, consisting of vitamin E acetate, mycotoxins and pesticide testing. I have developed robust methods using LC/MS/MS (ESI and APCI interfaces) and GC/MS/MS to accurately quantify over 60 different pesticides and appropriate isomers. Furthermore, I am skilled in metrology and troubleshooting and performing necessary maintenance on HPLC, LC/MS/MS and GC/MS/MS to ensure minimal instrument downtime.
