This role was created to address concerns of disengaged staff, low levels of gender diversity & a recognised issue of distrust between the workforce and leaders. It was originally a 12mth secondment, but the second week on the job I was asked to continue in a permanent capacity.This role involved many varied tasks, including:• Connecting with people at all 3 sites – Boddington Mine, Collie Refinery & Bunbury Port,• Initiating the Worsley Inclusion Network (WIN), which was a group of volunteers who wanted to make our workplace more inclusive for all employees. We brainstormed, voted on & implemented initiatives we thought would shift the dial to encourage a more inclusive work place. Some fantastic initiatives have been implemented that have made a positive difference in people’s lives (eg. Myth Busters, Site Newsletter, Awareness initiatives, etc),• Collaborating with the Culture & Capability team (Perth based) to understand results from our annual Employee Perception Survey, and working within the framework they created, Three Pillars of Focus,• Coordinating a Keeping In Touch quarterly forum to update employees on long term leave (including parental leave) of business news, but also a forum to connect with each other and often their line leaders,• Coordinating our Worsley Family day, where employees could bring their families to work. This has multiple benefits by engaging staff to take pride in their work place and letting their ever supportive families come and see where their family member works. This activity had not been done for 5 years.

As an Assset Planning Engineer, I was a member of the Business Planning team at South32. This team were responsible for ensuring Regional business and Asset plans were aligned to corporate strategy so as to maximise value and identify, assess and select value improvement opportunities.Team responsibilities include developing long term mining, process, plant and infrastructure plans for all assets in the region, aggregating asset plans into a Regional Business plan, assist in coordinating Closure Planning & Directional Studies.

During my time at Mining Plus I was involved in working on various types of mining studies (from concept to feasibility) and projects; 3 months on site secondment at a bauxite operational Mine Planning team to assist in planning and design requirements; Project Manager of a Russian magnetite iron ore project, co-ordinating a trade-off study for mine to mill transport systems, mine schedule, pit design and cost modelling of the existing open pit operations. Tasks included in that particular project:* Site visit to Moscow offices and mine site, near the town of Stary Oskol,* Managing the MP team and ensuring the budget and timeline was adhered to,* Co-ordinating and completing weekly reports detailing the teams work and addressing issues as they arose,* Communications and negotiations with the Russian Client, * Managing the sub-contracted Russian Institute, and* Writing & peer reviewing reports and presentations prior to submitting to the client.
