Reclaiming Minds First Ltd is a company that teaches black history lessons in schools, colleges, remand centres and prisons. There are currently two teachers and a researcher in black/Afrikan history. We also have a healing therapist on board as we recognise that healing is central to the community being able to repair itself and grow. this element is often overlooked or ignored when organisations are developed to help our community to grow. At Reclaiming Minds, we see healing as central to the work we have to do and totally imperative for a people who have undergone the trauma of enslavement, colonialism and racism. We also recognise that these problems are still very much a part of our lives.We focus on our young people as they can become researchers and help to solve the issues faced by our communities with the benefit of knowledge of self.We look at the plantation mentality and how this translates to the rise in violence among our young people, self image, images of beauty and touch on economic growth in addition to teaching about great Afrikan kingdoms, leaders, the how and why Afrika is in the state it is and what this means for us in the diaspora. We use music, and DVD's to enhance our sessions. Future plans are to set up a retreat where our young people can reconnect with nature, inter-schools black history conversations and competitions. We also work with teachers to devise ways to teach black history in schools. Both the pilot and work with teachers generated a lot of excitement and positive conversations and went some way toward proving our aims as detailed in our company booklet.

I now have a new publisher and am working with an illustrator so that I can bring out the second edition of my children's story closer to its original form. At the present I am awaiting the finished illustrations then the publishing can begin-exciting! I have already been booked for s school next year and am hoping to work jointly with a musician to add another dimension to my appearances in schools. I am working also on converting popular nursery rhymes into Caribbean rhythms and setting them to music. So far I have given 'Incy Wincy Spider'​ a musical makeover and it has gone down very well with teachers and students alike. It adds real excitement to the presentation and book reading!.I am available for children's parties and summer school events teaching story writing and poetry workshops.
