On 5 January 2015, the formation of a Government Agency working group was announced to examine the safety of motorcycling in Western Australia and to recommend potential short and medium term initiatives that could be pursued.The formation of the Motorcycle Safety Review Group (MSRG) reflects the Government’s concern about the over-representation of motorcyclists in road trauma generally and the increase in motorcyclist deaths that occurred in 2014. The objectives of the MSRG are to:-Develop evidence-based strategies to improve motorcyclist safety;-Review current and recent data on motorcyclist safety in WA;-Liaise with motorcycle rider and industry stakeholders;-Recommend to the Minister for Road Safety initiatives that have a sound evidential base; and-Provide the Road Safety Council with a report with agreed initiatives which has been endorsed by the agency CEOs.
