Delphi Institute’s National Leader for Health Data Equity, Hūhana Jade Barclay is committed to equity-by-design in our health, education, and research ecosystems, empowering emerging leaders and underrepresented groups, and enabling systemic change and innovative public-private collaborations for a more accessible and just world. Over the course of her 20+ year career in health, tech and education sectors, Jade has dedicated herself to sensemaking and placemaking – understanding hidden needs, decoding wicked problems, navigating unknowns in complex systems, clarifying misconceptions, bringing missing pieces, new perspectives, and silenced voices to light, and bridging interdisciplinary gaps in communication, data, and decision-making. Jade sits at the intersection of technology, strategy, education, and health research, translating between diverse stakeholders to improve health equity, innovation, and translation across the complex digital health ecosystem.Jade’s recent project work includes patient journey modelling and multimorbidity phenotype analytics with real-world data, addressing epistemic injury in health data science, identifying opportunities to reduce diagnostic delay and the gender disparity in diagnosis pathways, and developing practical frameworks for transformational advocacy and capacity building for patient-scientists and neurodivergent women in STEMM. Jade's background includes PhD research into Equity and Pain Management Priorities for Complex Collaborative Healthcare, MBA research into Burnout and Stress Factors in Entrepreneurship, and MPH research into Suicide Prevention and Chronic Pain. She has been featured on breakfast radio and the Today Show, and has been an invited speaker at international and national events. Jade has served on the Clinical Informatician Advisory task force and co-chaired the Consumer & Community Involvement Portfolio for Sydney Musculoskeletal Health, establishing and managing relationships with community leaders and health system stakeholders, including patients, clinicians, researchers, industry, and agencies, and creating opportunities to bring lived expertise into the lab.
