Small Business Owner

Happydaze Scrunchies

Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

Starting your own business can be scary, goodness, a lot of things can be, but what is more scary is not going after things that make you HAPPY. Mom gifted me my grand-mother's old sewing machine in the summer of 2020. We were in the peak of scrunchies coming back into style, but every scrunchie I bought was cheaply made and always broke. My mom taught me the basics of how to sew and from there I worked tirelessly at perfecting the scrunchie that I knew wouldn't fail me, while being stylish all at the same time. After making a few for myself I realized the potential they had and launched my very first small business which I named "HAPPYdaze Scrunchies".The name came from wanting to create something that made people, HAPPY. Whether they were being gifted, or worn as someone's favourite accessory, the happiness that they brought has always been the goal. The daze aspect came from being in the midst of a pandemic, and allowing something so small to create this daze of happiness amongst people's loved ones, especially in such uncertain times.Through this journey I've had plenty of challenges which have taught me many things. Here's a list of just a few things I have learned: - Love what you are creating, and you will never feel like you're working- Creating connections will not only change your business immensely, but also your day-to-day life- Time management is a paramount in any business. - How to forecast a proper budget, something they do not teach you in school- Creating a platform for consumers to use to access the product

Brand Ambassador

Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

Have you ever seen a Mini Cooper with a big Red Bull can on the top of it driving around your town? It might just have been me driving! I had a really amazing opportunity to work with a truly rad company as one of their Brand Ambassadors, and you guessed it, it was Red Bull Canada!Would you like to know what a typical day looked like in the life of a Brand Ambassador? Well, you came to the right place. To start, I would arrive at the office where all the product was, the Red Bull Mini Coopers, and your partner for the day, as we would always work in pairs. We would get ready for our adventure by putting all our Red Bull gear on, and then checking out what our adventure was for the day. Within our role, we were required to research what types of events were going on in Ottawa and surrounding cities each day. This would allow us to forecast the amount of product we would need to pack into the car, especially because once you were out on one adventure, it always led to another. We would go to events at Home Depot, Universities/Colleges, sports tournaments and even sometimes walk the city to meet phenomenal people! While at these events we would introduce the product to new users, old users, and even people who use Red Bull occasionally. We were able to have these impactful conversations about the nitty gritty of this premium product, while changing any negative perceptions into positives. Through-out the day we would take photos and add them into our profiles which allowed our superiors to have sight on the impacts we were making with the Red Bull product each shift. This opportunity allowed us to gain leadership, organizational skills, insane planning skills, and gave us memories as well as friendships that will last a life time. This job always left you feeling energized, and it wasn't only because of the Red Bull.

Tour Guide

Niagara-On-The-Lake, Ontario, Canada

Imagine being on a Jetboat that holds fifty-four passengers, a Captain and a Trip Leader. The boat has three engines, all at five hundred horse power, ripping you through the most incredible trip up the Niagara River. This is where you get the opportunity to crash through some insane Class V rapids, getting absolutely soaking wet while rocking a smile the whole ride! Well this was everyday while working at Whirlpool Jetboat Tours. I was lucky enough to work as a Trip Leader for two and a half seasons with Whirlpool Jetboat Tours. I lead some incredible trips through the Class V rapids while also visiting the Class VI rapids (you can look, but don't touch!) and Whirlpool! I got to be my authentic self out on the water and let my true, bubbly, personality shine bright! Something about making strangers, that quickly turn into friends, smile, never gets old.My responsibilities included, but were not limited to:- the safety of fifty-four passengers, and the Captain. This included being certified in First Aid and CPR in order to efficiently go over safety procedures each trip, before and during. - I went through intense training through the Class V rapids, where I was challenged to swim through the rapids and safely get myself back onto the boat. This was both physically and mentally challenging, but truly an experience I will never forget and allowed me to have a better understanding of what to expect in an emergency.- For keeping the dock, boat and change rooms clean and organized for each trip. - I had to ensure that all speakers, as well as the mics were working so each trip would be heard clearly (important for safety briefings). - Load and unload each passenger while checking their life jackets.- Tie up and untie the boat before and after each trip, and locking them up at the end of the dayI could go on and on about how amazing this experience for me was, especially as a job, but I highly recommend treating yourself to a trip to get the full experience.
