Growing up, I had always found myself laughing, smiling, and communicating with others. I would tell my parents about every aspect of my day, maybe a little dramatically, however, everything was so exciting to me. I would tell them about the new students I met at school and I was starting to develop my understanding of cultures and what made others who they are. During my years of bartending, I poured, talked, cried, laughed, and went through all the other emotions. I talked of my problems, I gave advice to others, and I went home knowing I made some kind of difference. Many of my coworkers talked a lot of talk just to get tips, but I would rather talk with someone about something real than to make a quick buck. I fell in love with this concept; I started my career in restaurants and retail because all I wanted to do was talk with others. Moving forward, it taught me empathy and compassion to others. As a person, I am the shoulder to cry on, who is cheering you on in the background, or to give you a swift kick in the behind when you need it. A true part of myself is never being judgmental towards others; we are all different, socially, economically, politically, and personally. There is no room in this short life we have to treat others disrespectfully and to misunderstand others' backgrounds.
