As an Ocean Lifeguard for the City of Huntington Beach, I work under the Fire Department, Marine Safety Division, performing ocean rescues, emergency medical aid, and providing customer service and information to the public beach patronage. The Marine Safety Division is certified by the United States Lifesaving Association as an Advanced Lifeguard Agency. I also hold a State of California Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B) license, allowing me to provide emergency medical care to trauma and medical patients at a higher scope of practice than initially trained to have in the ocean lifeguard academy. Essential duties include, but are not limited to:• Lifeguards an assigned area from a lifeguard tower or emergency rescue vehicle• Performs ocean rescues, informs beach patrons of hazardous ocean conditions, and removes dangerous objects from the beach and ocean area• Operates specialized lifesaving equipment and performs various first aid practices of a highly skilled nature• Performs routine and preventative maintenance on towers, vehicle, equipment and other facilities within an assigned area• Interacts with the public on the beach; answers questions and assists patrons with problems and advises of Municipal Ordinances• Participates in all rescue, first aid and aquatic emergencies until relieved by a supervisor• Performs other related duties as required

As the kitchen expeditor, I am tasked with making final preparations of and organizing dishes as they come from the kitchen. I am also responsible for knowing the menu at the same level as the Chefs and communicating between the kitchen and the front of house staff any adjustments to a certain dish. This role specifically demands composure under intense pressure and significant attention to detail. I also run food, bus tables, and barback as support staff in the restaurant.

I worked as a Theater Technician (Student Worker) in the Huntington Beach High School Historic Auditorium while concurrently enrolled as a Technical Theater student in the Huntington Beach Academy for the Performing Arts Program (see Education section). I was able to utilize the skills and experiences gained through the program to work on payroll as a Theater Technician, supporting outside companies and performance groups that rented and utilized the industry-level Auditorium. I primarily worked as a live Audio Engineer, mixing various shows ranging from Broadway musicals to chamber orchestras. This role demanded and significantly developed collaborative, communication, and leadership skills.

As a temporary Lifeguard Cadet for the City of Newport Beach Fire Department, Lifeguard Operations Division, I was primarily tasked as a lifeguard safety aid in the Junior Lifeguard program. This entailed supervising and assisting Junior Lifeguards during physical events and executing any task given by lifeguard and program supervision as necessary. While on duty, I was also responsible for performing rescues and medical aids for the public as necessary. I learned many valuable lifeguarding and professional work skills during my temporary employment with the City of Newport Beach, which set me up for future success in my career of lifesaving.

The Lifeguard Trainee attends classes in the City of Newport Beach Basic Lifeguard Academy (BLA) in order to learn skills and techniques used in ocean rescue, emergency decision making, first responder medical treatment and public assistance. Lifeguard Trainees may be hired as a Lifeguard I or Lifeguard Cadet based on performance during the BLA and operational needs. If offered a summer schedule, Lifeguards are expected to accept the schedule and work through Labor Day.
