Profile bio

About Jade Tang-Taylor

I’m a Designer, Facilitator, Innovator, Collaborator, Advisor & Educator. And I'm deeply passionate about Co-Designing Better Futures.I was initially trained in graphic design, and started off my career as a digital / web designer. More recently, I've been practicing strategic design, human-centred design, co-design and social innovation. Moving forward I'm also interested in life-centred design, equity-centred design, trauma-informed design and overall participatory design methods. I’m currently researching & exploring the intersection of Design Thinking, Systems Thinking, & Futures Thinking. In addition, exploring how emerging tech, strategic foresight & futures can enable design for social change in the 21st century, and beyond!Over the past 10-15+ years my career has been more of a squiggly line than a straight one, moving in & out of being a social entrepreneur to social intrapreneur across various organisations, industries & sectors. From across the design / creative industries, digital / tech sector, not-for-profit / community, social enterprise, academia, higher education, philanthropy and consulting. However, the common thread through them all is that I'm passionate about design for social innovation, social change, systems change & systems innovation.Over the next 10-15+ years I would like to continue to challenge myself, to keep learning and to develop my leadership experience, particularly in the area of governance. Providing strategic advice & advocating for the future of marginalised communities, ethnic communities with a focus on women, ethnic women, economic empowerment and diversity, equity & inclusion overall. I’m also personally interested in exploring how we as tangata tiriti (people of the treaty) can authentically partner with tangata whenua (people of the land) and how I can be a good ancestor, ally and stand in solidarity with Māori, the indigenous people of Aotearoa, New Zealand to shift us towards Te Tiriti Based futures. Currently, as part of my portfolio career /life, I wear a few hats; Innovation Advisor & Facilitator at academyEX, Tech Futures Lab, Co-Founder & Director of Speculative Design Futures Chapter in Tāmaki Makaurau and a Fractional Director of ThinkPlace. Alongside this, I serve on a few governance & advisory roles, from a grassroots community level; Iti Rearea Collective, to national level; Manatū Wāhine Ministry for Women. I'm also an Edmund Hillary Fellow, a SASS (Systems-change Advocacy, Support and Solidarity) group member but most importantly I'm a proud working mum of 1.http:/www.tangtaylor.com

For 15+ years, we have been tackling some of the world’s most complex challenges using design-led, human-centred approaches. We design with change leaders from the public, private and the non-profit sector and engage with the complexity and the messiness of real human experiences — how people live, work and play; how people experience products, services, regulations; how they navigate systems they interact with — health, education, energy, economic, regulatory, social welfare, to name a few.Globally we are a team of over 150 people who are passionate about making the world a better place. ThinkPlace has adopted the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals as our guiding purpose. Every project we take on, all over the world, must ‘move the needle’ on these goals.Currently, I'm a fractional leader / director at ThinkPlace Wāhi Whakaaro working with the wonderful, kind-hearted & talented team across the motu Aotearoa New Zealand, but based in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland.Let's design a future that works for all!https://www.thinkplace.co.nz/

The Design Futures Initiative is a nonprofit that produces events, workshops and programs focused on Speculative Design, Design Fiction, and Strategic Foresight. Speculative Futures is a network of international chapters and meetups headquartered in San Francisco, CA. These are communities for those interested in Speculative and Critical Design, Design Fiction, Discursive Design, Futurism, Science Fiction or any other incarnation of the approach which involves using Design to speculate about alternate futures. We host speakers and workshops with practitioners, teachers, students, and other professionals who will be talking about work or methods in this topic.Admittedly, I've been cheerleading, and supporting the Speculative Futures chapter team in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland for a few months now... Look forward to leaning in to support and activate more in the new year! Exciting times ahead...
