Languages have always fascinated me since I was a kid.I remember when I was around 10 years old. I had just completed Final Fantasy X, a JRPG from Square Enix (at the time, Square Soft). It caught my imagination and ran with it. After finishing the game, a music video plays by the Japanese artist, RIKKI. She sings a song that plays earlier in the game. It's a Japanese song. I remember hearing that song, and thinking, "Hey, that sounds pretty cool." One thing led to another, and I'm entering my 17th year of studying Japanese. Well, at this point it's more maintenance, but language learning never ends. Over the years, I've dabbled with a variety of languages, however Japanese has always been my main interest. One of my main hobbies is video games, I loved how they transported us briefly into another world, universe or setting. I always wanted to get into the video game industry in one way or other, originally aiming for game development, until I learned about the world of localisation. I always wanted to bring the same experiences I had as a kid to other audiences, and learning I could do that via localisation, that ignite a fire that has kept me learning and trying to gain as much experience in translation as I can for the past 17 years.I have worked briefly in translation, working on translating Japanese text & video advertisements into English, a job I truly enjoyed as I was able to translate a wide variety of subjects, from cosmetics and beauty, to financing and business. Over the years I have participated in fan translation projects, worked on my own translations, and even played games in Japanese to translate them into English for my own studies. Translation, Japanese and video games are my major passions in life. I have taught myself Japanese, however I have a strong command of the language, and my interest in video games has given me very good knowledge of the industry, both in the West and in Japan. I've played alongside Japanese gamers in online games, and have more or less immersed myself in the culture and trends. My dream is to bring the same experiences to the current generation. Through translation, I hope to introduce them to the worlds and universes that I did as a child. Notable skills:- Japanese to English translation- Creative writing- Strong knowledge of the video game industry, and a wide range of video game genres, in both English and Japanese- Able to read Korean, able to understand it on a basic level (A1-A2)- Able to read, write, speak and understand Dutch on an low intermediate level (A2-B1)
