During the semester break, I had the opportunity to engage in work within the fire protection sector, where I actively contributed to the installation of sprinkler systems at the New Zealand International Convention Centre (NZICC). This experience proved to be highly valuable, allowing me to acquire a diverse set of skills while gaining an understanding of how construction sites are operated.As an assistant, my role included:- Assisting with pressure testing of pipe systems.- Ongoing communication with project managers, engineers and contractors.- Attending site walks with the project manager and engineering consultant.- Planning and leading a toolbox meeting with the project manager.- Controlling exclusion zones and traffic flow whilst the Elevated Work Platform (EWP) is in use to ensure health and safety.- Operating the bandsaw to cut pipes to length.
