A poet with a camera, filmmaker Jae Shim aspires to be someone who tells the truth in a world increasingly difficult and unpopular to do so. Jae was selected as a finalist for the Warner Bros. Emerging Film Directors Workshop for his short story 'HAPPY DEATH CO.' based on, ironically, a fake funeral service in South Korea.Jae eventually discovered the groundbreaking work of David Cope who famously pioneered artificial intelligence and music. Nothing short of a dream project, he embarked on a five year journey with the godfather of AI music to make a film about the nature of creativity itself. 'OPUS COPE: AN ALGORITHMIC OPERA' imagines David’s world as a “documentary” and marks Jae’s feature film debut.Jae's work outside of directing extends into camera and editing departments including ESPN documentary series 'BLOOD, SWEAT, AND TEARS' (2020 - 2021), and narrative features 'THIS TIME (2022)' directed by Sebastian Tobler, and 'PAPER MARRIAGE' (2023) directed by Jeff Man and executive produced by the Duplass Brothers.
