I serve as overall global privacy lead for the Danaher organization, working with the privacy leads for Danaher's four business segments and the "pivots" at Danaher's operating companies. I also advise on legal matters pertaining to information security.

I was named to this role with a mandate to "globalize" our data protection activities as part of an overall General Counsel's Office effort to create a unified legal function worldwide. Some of the things my team and I accomplished are the following:* Established a Global Core Team composed of direct global reports and key country-level leaders* Created a mission statement and an organizational structure with defined pillars (Policy and Procedure, Advice, Incident Response, Impact Assessment, Training and Awareness, Monitoring and Assessment* Introduced numerous policies at the global level, including a fully revamped personal data privacy policy and Binding Corporate Rules for Processors under European Union law* Established a regular series of monthly conference calls and annual meetings to unify our 80+ data protection professionals in member firms worldwide into a single team* Successfully oversaw a two-year project to implement GDPR* Developed global data incident response plan* Expanded and reinvented our data protection impact assessment process in the wake of a 30-fold increase in requests

I joined the General Counsel's office of EY's US member firm in 1994 and became a partner/principal in 2000. My practice encompassed a broad range of in-house practice, including data protection, litigation, alternative dispute resolution, contract negotiation, regulatory matters, internal investigations, and ethics. Highlights include: Lead counsel for data privacy and security, 2004 to 2014 -- I played a key role in getting a data protection function established in the US firm and served as the principal legal advisor on data protection mattersLead counsel for financial services, 2011-2014 -- I was the lead lawyer for the US firm's largest business unit (revenues > $3 billion) on contracting and advisory matters.Lead counsel for ethics and compliance, 2001-2011 -- I led the establishment of EY's first Code of Conduct and establishment of EY's ethics hotline, and I oversaw US ethics hotline operations and investigations.Other experience:-- Technology: My projects included co-leading the legal team advising EY's Y2K advisory and implementation practice-- Alternative dispute resolution: I developed EY's ADR program for the United States and advised the firm's lawyers and business leaders on ADR-related matters-- Appellate litigation: I briefed and argued numerous cases in state and federal appellate courts as part of EY's in-house appellate practice
