I helped integrate Metaswitch and Affirmed Networks acquisitions into Microsoft. My initial focus was on helping to stabilize the 5G mobile core for a lighthouse customer and then I focused on developing our AIOps strategy including leading development of two new Azure Services. A key part of integration was merging cultures between acquired companies and Microsoft and building capable PM teams that could accelerate service availability and the corresponding businesses.

I lead the Azure Storage Data Lake Storage team that focuses on large-scale, high-performance workloads including Big Data, HPC and machine learning. This role includes development of business and technical strategies to support a multi-year product roadmap . The role also includes expanding the capabilities of the Storage team to develop industry leading expertise in these domains. My team also has responsibility for the Storage platform including cross-cutting functionalities including Security, BCDR and our developers experience across the 5 core Storage products (Blobs, Tables, Queues, Files and Disks). For security this has included encryption at rest, network security and access control. For developer experience we are responsible for ensuring our Storage SDKs and documentation enable developers to build scalable and secure Storage based applications. My team has also developed the product strategy for Azure’s fully managed NoSQL solution Azure Table Storage and for developing the GTM strategy for Azure File Storage – Azure’s fully managed SMB based file sharing solution.

Microsoft Dynamics CRM is Microsoft’s CRM solution that is available both as a fully managed online service or as a traditional on premise product. I lead the platform development team (100+ FTE’s, ~50 vendors) responsible for redesigning Microsoft’s Dynamics CRM Online Service to compete with SalesForce.Com. The successful redesign took CRM from 12th place to 2nd place in the industry. I helped build a strong leadership team and helped build the vision for the new platform. We also instituted new agile engineering practices and delivered the platform overhaul on time and feature complete.

During my 15 years at Microsoft I have also worked in several other teams in both Program Manager and Architect roles. • Microsoft Research (Microsoft CTO) - Lead PM for SecPAL (Security Policy Assertion Language) – a joint collaboration between the CTO’s incubation team and Microsoft Research Cambridge. Co-authored the SecPAL Schema Specification. Designed and implemented a language parser for SecPAL using F#.• Patterns & Practices (Developer Division and Windows Server) – Delivered prescriptive guidance for key customer scenarios (ala IBM RedBooks), including Web Service Software Factory, Web Service Security Patterns, SAML Security Token Service Application Block and the reference architecture for .NET 1.1. I was also Microsoft’s representative in the Web-Services Interoperability organization (WSI) and worked on the WS-I Basic Security Profile and Basic Profile. In Windows Server I focused on focused on integrating patterns & practices style guidance into Windows Server and PowerShell with an emphasis on executable guidance based on customers scenarios.• Windows Mobile – Enable multi-factor authentication on Windows Mobile using blue-took enabled smart-card readers.

WorldNow is a SaaS solution provider enabling its network of 400 broadcast affiliates to deliver targeted Internet based news and information to local communities within the United States. As VP of Technology I was responsible for technical strategy, development and infrastructure teams. Key accomplishments included:• Lead the development of the multi-tenant application web-based content management system including asset mgmt.(text, images and video); searchable video, syndicated content interface (XML, NITF); ad management; and direct e-mail.• Utilized state-of-the-art Web Services based architecture to allow external vendors such as the Associated Press to automate application integration via standard API’s. • Developed the prototype for a business rule engine (JRules, Clips) based solution for delivering highly targeted news and ads to consumers. • Managed the build out of a state-of-the-art data center providing high availability through scalable, secure and redundant network architecture.

Designed high value Internet and Intranet based solutions for customers in the finance industry. Clients included First USA (with IBM Global Services), General Reinsurance, First National Bank of Chicago and Doubleclick (with Microsoft Consulting). Solution space included e-Commerce, Content Management, Knowledge Management and Customer Relationship Management applications.

Developed a client / server based application to centralize management of daily subsistence allowance (DSA) data. System incorporated centralized management of foreign exchange data combined with interfaces to payroll and accounting systems. Expedited the adoption of Internet technologies by developing the UN’s first Internet based application allowing UN and subsidiaries (UNDP, WHO, World Bank, Red Cross etc) to submit modifications to the DSA system via a secure Extranet.
