About Jaime Martinez

Jaime Martinez is a proud Johns Hopkins University and North Allegheny graduate. As an individual with a strong sense of legislative acumen at both the federal and local levels–especially pertaining to policy design and consensus-building–he recognizes the multifaceted and practical strategies needed to meaningfully and positively transform an environment.Shortly before his graduation from NA, he got involved in the local effort to respond to the nation’s resurgent conversation on racism and prejudice and was the youngest co-founder of NA For Change, a grassroots coalition focused on improving the educational experience of all students at NA through the implementation of various policies that ensure students feel heard, valued, and respected. He steered NA For Change as its founding executive director towards becoming a sustainable and effective youth-led coalition, serving as a public surrogate and facilitator while engaged in policy discussions with the District. NA For Change’s work under his leadership garnered the attention of the largest civil rights organization in Southwestern Pennsylvania, which honored the coalition through its first-ever Emerging Leadership Award. He has continued his policy work through three semesters working in both chambers of Congress. He recently spoke on consensus-based leadership within polarized communities at a White House-affiliated national conference in Washington, DC through the Hispanic Heritage Foundation. His deep passion for the success of the NA community drove him to decide to graduate early from the university and pursue a seat on the school board. His campaign, alongside his slate, made history in flipping the school board to a Democratic majority for the first time in history while shattering turnout records by nine points. After a hairline loss of less than 150 votes out of nearly 100,000, Jaime continues to make change and engage young people in the spaces he is in, recognizing the power of empowering youth.
