Values:Representing ourselves here on LinkedIn is interesting in that the platform has its own ideas of what’s important for other people to know. There’s a section for skills, which we select from a dropdown menu; a section for past work experience, which for neurodivergent folks might feel less representative of our unique brilliance and skills than our broader lived experiences and communal histories. But for me the biggest missing piece is values. Shared values are often where I feel the deepest resonance with folks who I'm connecting with—personally or professionally. Values have drawn the line of discernment between "his place isn’t for me" or "I’m so grateful to belong here." And my values shape how I show up at work just as much as my skills and past work experience, so it feels important to name them.Among many things, I value: the earth, bodies and beings (human and more-than-human), accountability, integrity, communal processes of healing and transformation, power with (not power over), craft, ancestral wisdom, seasonality, diversity (of lifeways, personhood, experience, expression), belonging, appreciation, care, and community. If I could sum up my values in a single word, it would be: relationship. What I'm looking for:In general, I’d love to connect with indie booksellers and shopkeepers, community-centered small businesses, abolitionist businesses, culture workers, witchy writers, piercers & tattooers (in an alternative timeline I definitely work at a piercing shop), artists and makers, herbalists, care workers, growers, community farmers, and craftspeople.I share a dream with my partner of opening our own independent shop and community space in Vermont. Building toward that, I want to bring my warmth, creative thinking, and attention to detail to a role that connects with local community. Rural mail carrier, herbalist’s assistant, piercing counter attendant, indie shopkeeper, community support specialist, or other work in human services. I’d someday love to work closely with an indie shop owner to learn the ropes of small business ownership and shopkeeping while bringing my diverse skill set, user experience (UX) learnings, and stellar customer service.
