• Technical lead for QIIME 2, an open source Python framework for decentralized, reproducible, interactive, and scalable microbiome data science. The software supports automating bioinformatics workflows, built-in data provenance tracking, semantic types, and running on systems ranging from laptops to HPC clusters and the cloud.• Core engineer for scikit-bio, an open source Python bioinformatics library integrated with the scientific Python stack. Co-presented at SciPy 2015 and represented bioinformaticians at Data Structures for Data Science (DS4DS), an exclusive working group held by leaders of the scientific Python community.• Lead engineer for Keemei, a Google Sheets add-on for validating tabular bioinformatics file formats. Started as a personal side project before being funded and presented in a scientific publication.• Core engineer of the BIOM file format and Python library for efficiently representing sparse biological observation matrices. This file format was used by the Earth Microbiome Project to represent over 15,000 samples and millions of observations.• Co-authored 18 peer-reviewed publications in the field of microbiome science, including 3 first-author publications. Co-instructed 11 data analysis workshops. Delivered 6 oral and poster conference presentations. Assisted in writing an NSF-funded grant.

• Implemented and benchmarked a suite of nonparametric multivariate statistical methods in the QIIME 1 software package (Python).• Analyzed microbiome datasets in HPC cluster environments. Presented and interpreted results and prepared manuscripts.• Taught lab members microbiome data analysis skills. Mentored undergraduate students working on microbiome software and analysis projects.

• Developed a J2EE web/FTP/rsync traffic reporting web app, leading to continued funding for several projects based on visitor volume during a given timespan.• Developed a Perl web service for spacecraft position data, reducing software installation size from 180GB to 10GB.• Developed a multi-threaded Qt C++ application to aid users in the creation of planetary mosaics, increasing the amount of supported data by 2 orders of magnitude.
