Jai Udit served as the Lead Officer of Research and Innovation at the Telecommunications Authority Suriname (TAS), where he has been instrumental since 2007, joining during the pivotal period of telecom sector liberalization in Suriname. Among his early achievements was the establishment of a type acceptance procedure for radio and terminal devices.Before his tenure at TAS, Jai was an entrepreneur in the signage industry, where he founded a successful company that introduced innovative products and processes to the Surinamese market through an affiliation with a Dutch company. His professional journey began at the Telecommunications Company Suriname (Telesur), where he led a team in connecting ATMs and corporate branch offices to a data platform.Jai is also a key figure in the Suriname Internet Exchange (SUR-IX), serving as Secretary on the board since its operational launch in August 2022. Additionally, during the pandemic, he spearheaded the initiative to establish an ISOC chapter in Suriname, which became a chartered member in February 2022, and he now serves as its president.Jai holds an MBA in Innovation & Technology and a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Technology (B.Tech) in Information Technology and currently pursuing graduation in Cybersecurity. He is an alumnus of Junior Chamber International (JCI) and was honored with a JCI Senatorship in November 2023. He remains active in his community as a member of Lions Club Parwani and as a part-time lecturer at the Polytechnic College Suriname.In recognition of his contributions, Jai received an award from the ITU Global Regulators’ Exchange in 2009. He is fluent in Dutch and English, with a working knowledge of Spanish and Hindi.

In this regard, I collaborated with: LACNIC to organize capacity building workshops on Basic IPv6 in 2016; I also worked with the ITU Regional Office and Lacnic to organize the Caribbean Cyber security & Cyber Drill in 2017. We collaborate with regional organizations on a yearly basis to host events that are in line with its strategy. We also support the establishment of an IXP in Suriname (SUR-IX) with expertise from the ITU, ISOC and LAC-IX. ISOC also funded the equipment for the IX fabric. In August 2022 SUR-IX became operational. SUR-IX is a not for profit foundation which is supervised by a board. I am the Secretary in the board.
