About Jake Mccoy

As an experienced aerospace engineer, I'm passionate about making an impact in the future of space exploration and pushing the boundaries of what's possible. For four years, I worked at Virgin Orbit, from before the first launch through the last. As a Prop Dev Engineer, I focused on developing, testing, and flying the second-stage engine for the LauncherOne vehicle. As a Launch Engineer and member of the Flight Crew, I was responsible for training and qualifying as a console operator and flight crew member on Cosmic Girl, the Boeing 747 used for carrying and launching the LauncherOne rocket. Now at SpaceX, I build and test the Dragon spacecraft, the United States' ride to orbit and the ISS.My drive, passion, and experience make me an excellent addition to any space industry team seeking a highly motivated, skilled, and dedicated professional. If you're looking for someone who is committed to making a difference in the field of space exploration, I'm your person.

    Undergraduate Research Assistant
University Of Tennessee Aug 2017 - Dec 2017
    Us
I performed additive manufacturing research on a team for the Naval Engineering Education Consortium (NEEC). The main project I completed was to create a recycling system for 3D printing. This system could take either bulk plastic pellets or ground-up failed prints and extrude it into filament, and finally wind it on a spool. This could then be fed directly into a 3D printer for reuse in new parts. Additionally, I worked on printing carbon fiber/ABS dog-bone specimens for tensile testing to evaluate variability and mechanical properties of additive manufactured composites.
