I started my career as an Engineering Apprentice with Balfour Beatty. Within this role, i was exposed to my earliest experiences of overhead lines (power) while working with various teams such as Temporary Works, Overhead Line Design, Overhead Line Foundations and Structural Design and Detailing.Following graduating from my apprenticeship, I progressed into the role of a Draughtsperson, primarily focusing on overhead line engineering drawings (i.e. Wire Clearance Diagrams, Insulator Set Drawings Composite Route Maps etc), with occasional draughting work being undertaken for the Temporary Works and Structural Detailing teams. This allowed me to gain a broad appreciation of overhead lines and the work involved to complete large projects.When I found myself wanting something more, I took on a new role as a Design Engineer within the Overhead Line Foundation team. This allowed me to learn about many of the disciplines involved with the foundations team including Desktop Studies, Soil Investigation, Foundation Assessments, Foundation Designs, Piling.This brings me to my current role of Principal Design Engineer, where i have taken on the additional responsibility of checking work and developing other team members. I am also involved with many extra curricular projects for business development.With all of my roles (past and present) giving me over eleven years experience of working in the Power Transmission and Distribution sector believe that I have the necessary prerequisites to continue to make a valuable contribution to the Power Transmission and Distribution sector.
