Jake Ashey is a multi-instrumental singer-songwriter based in the Chicago area. His love for music began with piano lessons at the age of 5 and has developed consistently throughout his life. His love for vocal performance began in high school with his debut in the world of musical theater. In college, he started studying the guitar, and began composing heartfelt, diverse and complex songs that have collected to form an expansive repertoire. Jake is a musician well versed in a wide range of genres, including but not limited to jazz, funk, R&B, gospel, acoustic, and folk. His style is strongly influenced by his early exposure to oldies, classical music and jazz standards. Time spent performing in a variety of church settings developed his skills of improvisation, creative instrumental voicing and ear for harmony and chemistry. Additionally, his experience on stage as an actor and comedian developed his skills of narrative storytelling, stage presence and audience interaction. He has since been fortunate enough to be featured at a number of well-known musical venues in Chicago, including Uncommon Ground, Victory Gardens Theater, Gallery Cabaret, and Davenport’s Piano Bar.
