I am a seasoned, practical attorney with over 15 years of law firm and in-house experience handling a vast range of intellectual property, licensing, marketing, technology, cybersecurity, privacy, and corporate legal matters. In my current role as an Associate General Counsel on Vanguard's Intellectual Property, Marketing and Communications Legal team, my primary responsibility is to protect Vanguard's key intellectual property assets. I utilize my experience in international trademark clearance, prosecution, and enforcement (including extensive experience with TTAB and UDRP proceedings) to secure trademark registration for our house VANGUARD mark, develop filing programs for new marks and taglines, curb third party infringement, and combat online fraudsters. I negotiate complex co-branding, licensing, and other intellectual property-focused agreements. My role requires work with a broad range of clients, including marketing and creative teams, public relations, software developers, crypto and fintech specialists, information technology specialists, and economists.Prior to my current role, I led Vanguard's IT and Security Legal team. In that role, I served as the primary legal contact to Vanguard's Chief Information Officer and IT Division, and managed a team of experienced attorneys and legal analysts. The team's work focused heavily on negotiating complex vendor and technology agreements, settling vendor disputes, and advising on data privacy and cybersecurity regulations. I partnered closely with Vanguard's Chief Privacy Officer on legal response and preparedness related to data breaches, cybersecurity breaches, and zero-day vulnerabilities, and regularly worked with Vanguard's Compliance team to interpret regulations and communicate with regulators in this space. The role helped me gain tremendous substantive knowledge in the areas of privacy, cybersecurity, AI/ML, cloud computing and IT architecture, and cyberinsurance, which I have been able to apply to my current role on Vanguard's IPMC legal team.Prior to Vanguard, I was a senior associate at Dechert LLP, where my experience included trademark clearance, prosecution and enforcement work for a range of leading technology and financial services companies, as well as M&A support for a wide range of complex intellectual property agreements.
