Having worked in the primary care sector for the last 8 years, I've seen the value a passionate team of health professionals can deliver to the individuals and communities they serve. However, there are many systematic barriers that prevent primary care from maximising its potential. I have worked with countless primary care organisations to build internal capacity and to work better with their patients despite these barriers. I am driven to work with the health and public service sectors to reshape systems to reinforce the value of primary healthcare and enable care teams to do the work they love best.When we zoom out, the changing climate and broader damage of the Anthropocene casts a potent threat to the stability of human health and societies. We know that cultivating, and not just protecting, the richness of the natural environment and its biodiversity will nourish human well-being. I imagine a world where healthcare operates with minimal environmental impact, contributes to healthy ecosystems and cultivates place-based conservation of the natural environment and the ancient richness of life. I hope to continue working with the healthcare sector, particularly primary healthcare, to build capacity and capability for this vital work and to realise this vision.
