I oversee a program that connects community volunteers with K-2 children for weekly, child-directed play sessions. Play sessions happen in Rochester-area elementary schools and volunteers work with the same three children each week. Through this program, we work to help the children build social-emotional skills, self-confidence, and intergenerational friendships with their adult play buddies. We currently serve 348 children with a community of 124 volunteers.

I manage a tutoring site at an elementary school in Washington, D.C. This involves scheduling volunteer tutors to work one-one-one with forty-five elementary school students, measuring student progress through quantitative research and data visualization, coaching and training tutors in educational techniques, and monitoring every tutoring session.

Over the past four years, I have served as a section editor, managing editor, and Editor-in-Chief for Utraque Unum, Georgetown University's only undergraduate research journal of the humanities. During my tenure as Editor-in-Chief I have saved the journal 2,000 dollars per semester in publication costs, created a digital version of the journal, and curated roughly one hundred pages of polished and engaging student writing every semester. I also lead editing workshops and trainings, and am in the process of developing a series of podcasts for the journal's digital edition.

Washington D.C.

Through Georgetown's Center for Social Justice, I oversee a tutoring program in an elementary school in Southeast D.C. In this capacity, I develop curricula and trainings, manage the day-to-day operations of the tutoring site, and work with the administrations of Georgetown University and the elementary school to help ensure that each student under my care meets or surpasses the federal reading standards for their grade.

Over the past year, I served as the recipient of Georgetown's David Andretta Fellowhip. In this capacity, I designed and served as the Principal Investigator of a project examining the use of play as a tool of pedagogy and empowerment in early childhood education. This work required me to spend between 40-45 hours per week in a preschool, conduct interviews with children and educators, and compile and analyze data (through a new and innovative version of Grounded Theory). I presented this research at a conference hosted by the Center for Social Justice on September 21st.

In my capacity as a Gallery Host at the Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester, N.Y., I tended to the displays and interactives in all of the exhibits, designed fun and innovative ways to interact with guests, and worked to ensure that every visitor had an enjoyable experience in the museum.

Raised thousands of dollars for, and spread awareness about, NYPIRG's efforts to create a new, sustainable energy future for New York. Worked in communities across the state, articulating the goals of NYPIRG, and successfully harnessing public support for this movement.

Assisted a middle school student in a variety of academic subjects; this involved designing lesson plans, creating practice worksheets, and teaching lessons. Taught multiple days a week, helping to clarify difficult concepts, and enrich the learning of the student.
