About Jake Mulhern
While my career path may seem a bit unconventional it all boils down to my love for learning and experiencing new things!In 2014 I moved to Denver, where I now call home, to pursue a graduate degree and a career as a youth and family therapist. During this time I had the opportunity to impact the lives of many kids struggling across all areas of their lives. I absolutely loved giving back to the community, teaching life skills and leadership skills, and getting to embrace my kid-like curiosities alongside such amazing people.During this time I was also working as an artist, utilizing older technology to produce video art for musicians and other artists. As a rabid fan of all things music this really sparked a life-long interest in the art form. I was able to be creative, teach myself new and completely unique skills, and give back to the artists that have always inspired me.It was also during this time that I began to struggle with the lack of technology utilized in the field of social work. I have always been interested in the latest technological trends and have enjoyed pushing new tools to see where I can take them. As an analog video artist there are no guides or documentation. You simply have to experiment to discover what you can do. With a budding career as an artist and a deep passion for a field where I can continue to grow as a professional I decided to leave social work and pursue a career as a software engineer.Joining a group called Watch & Code I began my next journey. It was instantly evident to me that as a software engineer I can continue to learn every single day and embrace my creative side as I encounter unique problems. When I become passionate about something I become VERY passionate about it! Throughout my career as a software engineer this passion has never gone away. Each day is a new puzzle to solve and as an avid puzzle collector who could want more?!
