As a Lecturer in Animal Studies, I am passionate about delivering real-world, engaging education that prepares the next generation for success in the animal care industry. With a strong vocational background, I specialise in teaching modules such as Zoological Collections and Animal Training to Level 1, 2, and 3 learners, while also serving as the Programme Lead for Level 2.I hold a Level 3 Award in Education and Training and am currently pursuing my Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training, continuously refining my skills to better support my students.Throughout my career, I've had the opportunity to make a significant impact, including:🌱Establishing an education and events department from scratch within a zoo, which included writing a new Conservation Education Plan that guided the zoo through a successful licensing inspection.🦭 Weaning and training Californian Sea Lion pups and developing new sea lion displays that adhered to EAZA guidelines.💭Leading a zoo's first autism-friendly event, a project that required thoughtful coordination and community engagement.🏳️‍🌈 Being appointed as the Diversity, Equality, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) Ambassador, an area I’m committed to advancing within the animal care field.My teaching philosophy centers around bringing the classroom experience to life by drawing from my own hands-on experiences. I’m deeply invested in understanding the skills required by employers in the animal industry and ensuring my learners develop these critical competencies. Above all, I am passionate about advocating for modern animal welfare and training practices, preparing my students to not only succeed but to lead with compassion and responsibility in their future careers.
