As someone who has always had a deep-rooted passion for Social Sciences - Politics and Modern Studies in particular - I decided to put myself through BA(Hons) in Community Education at the University of the West of Scotland, where I have completed my honours year dissertation titled ‘The Transformation of Scottish Youth Work, 2007-2022; An Exploration of Change, Challenge and Impact’ which has earned myself a first class honours.Since my time as a senior in Secondary School, I have been involved in the development of Equality and Inclusion that young people face within the formal Education System. For two years I served as a Mentor in Violence Prevention, where I would deliver sessions on Gender Based Violence and the better role that we in society can play as Active Bystanders. As well as this, I also served as an S1 Buddy in the ‘Learning Hub’ Project, where I worked with an S1 pupil to build upon their confidence in Literacy, Numeracy and Personal Health and Well-being.From this, my passion for Community Learning and Development/Community Education flourished, and I have now facilitated and lead clubs and programmes at various University Placements. By taking placements in various settings such as local Youth Centres that simply aim to build young people's interpersonal relationships, to more national organisations that offer more digital based skills - and STEM Programmes which aims to create more equality within the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematical areas and even further education settings that help learners gain skills based qualifications that can often lead to full-time employment or higher education - I have developed an understanding of issues that not only affect young people, but the communities in which they live.Through this, myself and those I have worked with aim to seek a more empowered learning system for young people that is built upon the foundations of Equality, Social Justice and Human Rights as tools to fight Global and Institutional Oppression that learners - both young and old - in our society face today.
