Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Jake Velardo and I am a 2019 Florida Atlantic University graduate with a bachelors degree in civil engineering. In 2012, I graduated from Indian River State College with an Associated Arts Degree. I was born in Miami, FL but have lived most of my life in Port Saint Lucie, FL. Fort Pierce is a coastal town which is perfect for me because in my spare time I enjoy fishing and boating with my family and friends. Over the past six years while attending college full time, I worked as a pharmacy technician at a local pharmacy, a team leader at Walmart Distribution Center and currently I am a project manager at Ranger Construction.After graduating from IRSC with my associates, I was granted a two-year STEM scholarship for the civil engineering program at Florida Institute of Technology. As my scholarship approached its end, I decided FAU would be a better fit. FAU was much more budget friendly and the closest university offering civil engineering other than FIT. Once I researched everything FAU had to offer, I had no doubt it was where I wanted to complete my degree. Although FAU is over one hour each way from where I live, I still made the time to attend full time while working 36 hours a week. Since starting my college career I have gone through many life changes such as losing my father, getting married, and now having my first child. None of these adversities hindered my commitment to my end goal of becoming a civil engineer. I personally believe this shows my dedication to my career and that I will not allow anything to get in my way from accomplishing my goals. With that said, I know I can juggle many tasks and stretch myself in many different directions. I consider this to be one of my greatest strengths but also my biggest weakness. I can overload myself by not being able to say no, but I also give my all to everything I commit myself to which satisfies how I will deal with adversities.
