As an Administrative Services Analyst, I specialized in coordinating cross-departmental partnerships between the District Attorney, Public Defender, Probation Department, Health and Human Services Agency, and local nonprofits in collaboratively working to secure funding for criminal justice reform priorities. During my tenure at the District Attorney’s Office, I have authored thirteen different grants and was awarded eight of them (a 61.5% success rate). Among these proposals were the CalOES Transitional Housing (XH) program, a five year $1.5 million grant to address Yolo County’s growing homeless population, and the federal Swift, Certain, and Fair (SCF) supervision grant, a three year grant worth $600,000 that funds a department-wide shift to implementing the Hawaii Opportunity Probation with Enforcement (HOPE) model. I also co-authored an article in the American Bar Association’s Criminal Justice Review journal with Jeff Reisig discussing the Neighborhood Court program, a local restorative justice-based diversion program. I have also drafted numerous press releases related to these initiatives. I was responsible for conducting two recidivism studies on the Neighborhood Court and coordinating the independent local evaluation plan.

After two legislative sessions working as an intern, Rep. Ben Unger hired me as his only staff member upon announcing his intention not to seek re-election to a second term. Serving in this capacity, I was directly responsible for handling the representative’s scheduling, legislative affairs, social media presence, all office communications, and developing a substantive policy report on the State of Oregon’s education system. Left the position in October in order to complete my degree at Willamette University.

Brief stint as a paid campaign canvasser in June 2014, going door-to-door in support of a local tax initiative to fund public safety costs. That same month, I also canvassed for Elizabeth Furse, a candidate for the Washington County Board of Commissioners.

Worked as a tutor for the school’s Symbolic Logic course, a class designed to teach the principles of logic and apply them in a formal system of proofs. I taught students in one-on-one and weekly group sessions. Required the understanding of a complex subject matter, working with multiple conflicting schedules, as well as patience in dealing with students learning difficult material.

Worked under the federal work study program for Willamette University. My first permanent work position, serving in a dual capacity for the university’s Business Office and Student Accounts. This position taught me how to function as part of a team in an office setting, and what’s required of an employee: stability, staying focused on the task at hand, and taking pride in your work ethic. Responsibilities included reviewing records for auditing purposes, managing GL account entries, filing and various record-keeping, cold calling student loan borrowers with outstanding loan debts.

Temporary summer job while on break from university. Every person should be required to work in food service at some point in their lives; I think the world would be a much better place. Experience dealing with “difficult” customers, working in a job that requires attention to the details of each individual order.

Interned for Rep. Unger during the 2013 & 2014 legislative sessions (7 months total). Completed legislative assistant training, with the second session’s workload primarily focused on hands-on job training. Experience preparing daily news briefs, press releases, research projects, maintaining the representative’s schedule, meeting with lobbyists on behalf of the office, speaking directly with constituents on cold calls.
