The project that I am running is called the Livewell Guardian and we look forward to having a first prototype of the unit ready for field testing during Q2 2015My responsibilities are that of driving this project from a central standpoint including management, budget, outsourcing, engineering and commercialisation.

I applied for a new position which was created within the company and was selected from a group of candidates to the role of an "Enterprise Architect" At this time the subject was relatively new in South Africa and no formal training on the topic was available. For this reason my employer appointed an external consultant from one of the large Insurance firms in South Africa (Sanlam) to facilitate a mentoring program based on the existing challenges within the organization. In 2006 I attended various specialized training courses in Holland, UK, Germany, Belgium and France on related subjects. By 2007 we had successfully drawn up our EA mandate and implementation plan which I continued to maintain for the remainder of my employment with Face Technologies.Over the years I became involved in all of the key projects within Face Technologies to ensure that the commercial and technical principles which were decided on had been adhered to.

Appointed as Software Architect and assigned to project called "CEPIK". The project involved the delivery of a Traffic Information System to the Polish government. My involvement on the project team required the compilation of an Architectural framework and key participation in the design of this system. Based on the available Oracle technology at the time. The system was proposed as a J2EE application built on top of the Oracle BC4J platform. Following the design phase of this project I remained involved on a part time basis during the development phase.I spent a considerable amount of my time working with System and Business analysts appointed by our Polish partner company called Prokom. This required a considerable amount of travel between South Africa and Poland.

I was recruited as an independant consultant and tasked with reworking the financial reconcilliation application and online payment gateways for the company.Legacy interfaces which had been developed over a historical period had the adverse effect in that they were beginning to stand in the way of the overall systems advancement, therefore the task was to review the system and provide a detailed plan on how the the system could be upgraded.

I was recruited as a contractor and assisted with the development of the Interconnect Telecoms billing system. Development was done in java (J2EE) and as a contractor I worked off spec on various components to the system.This was a great learning opportunity in my career as I got to see another side of the telecoms industry which until then had been quite foreign to me.

Worked as part of a team on the development and maintenance of (Telkoms) Unibase system. My particular area of focus was the Clarify interface which provisioned an external interface to Telkoms business partners. Development of the interface was done in java while integration into the legacy system required knowledge of Corba and C++In the time spent on this contract I most value the understanding which I have aquired of telecoms systems, it is a fascinating area of business and is becoming more and more relevant in the overall industry.

Contracted to various clients including The Health & Raquet Club, Proffessional Provident Society, Discovery health amongst others. My reponsibilities were to assist clients in the successful implementation of various systems which were developed using Borlands products ie. Delphi, JBuilder, Appcenter & Visibroker. I was involved in the various areas of the Software Development Lifecycle including design, programming and implementation.The ability to work for an international company and have access to cutting edge technology provided me with invaluable tools to further develop my skills in this industry. The diversity of projects on which I worked also helped to contextualise the real value of these technologies from an end user perspective.

I worked as a java developer on the Advanced Retail Management System (ARMS) my functions were limited to the area of software development within an existing proprietary framework. Exposure to Sybase and JBuilder as well as several reporting and data mining technologies.The experience with Pick 'n Pay was extraordinary partly because as a company they have pioneered in the South African market the development of an Enterprise solution on a Java platform. At this time java was still fairly unproven in its ability to scale and function within a high demand environment such as ARMS. Having been part of the team exposed me to a steep learning curve as much of what we accomplished was through trial & error.
